...after straying for 16 years, and gaining 100 lbs! What was I thinking, abandoning the WOE that allowed me to lose weight and get healthy (went from 189 to 122 in 1978, and maintained under 134 until 1993, at which point I caved in to the Low-fat/High carb myth. Want proof that THAT causes obesity? My high weight, just 5 months ago, was 235. I took my last shot at WW and lost 7 lbs in that 5 months, and nearly two weeks ago came to my senses and began induction. So here I am: 57, fat, wheezing, but down5 lbs to date. Me? metabolically resistant? You bet! So I'll be keeping my carbs fairly low, and losing at a slow rate, but oMG, I feel soooo much better already.

Re: I've Come Back to Atkins
Hi and welcome back to Atkins --
Regardless of what you did before, or what you read other people are doing, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.
You say you are keeping your carbs low to loose weight -- I was doing the same thing for a long time, thinking it was helping, but since I started getting right at or just below my quota of carbs my weight has started moving and has continued to move. Make sure you are eating 1 cup of veggies from the 2nd list of acceptable veggies list as well as 2 cups of salad veggies everyday. Don't skimp on food - that's not the way to loose weight!
I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin – these are mandatory when following Atkins.
Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your carbs should be coming from.
The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

Re: I've Come Back to Atkins
It's easy to start eating all the garbage you used to eat, gain the weight back and more. I found out that even without the weight loss I feel a lot better eating this way. Hope the pounds come off easy for you!male/35/295/250/175? Weight loss is no longer my primary goal. Getting to the point where I no longer feel like h-e-doublehockeysticks is!

Re: I've Come Back to Atkins
Its taken me longer to loose the weight. But I stayed on induction too long. Going up the rungs and getting more variety into your diet can make it better in the long run. Everyone wants to race to get the pounds off. I now believe in making it as pleasant as possible because I'm gonna be doing low carb forever in some form. I like looking back on what I've done and not feeling deprived or seeing a road of long suffering. I don't think of where I'll be next month, I think of where I'll be next year! Or five years from now. As long as I am moving towards my goal and learning to keep the pounds off, I'm happy. Persistence is what every dieter needs, keep at it and reach your goals!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.
1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
2nd mini goal: 140!
3rd mini goal:135!
4th mini goal: 130!
I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Re: I've Come Back to Atkins
Hi Carole, thanks for the welcome and the suggestions. While I moved away from Atkins and a Lowcarb lifestyle, I've kept up with the changes, and have a library full of Dr Atkins' books including DANDR 2002.
I'm beginning week two of OWL tomorrow, and adding another 5 grams per day. I know from past experience, and from my slowing weight loss, that too much beyond that and it will be difficult to lose evfen my 4 lbs per month goal. Still, I have far more energy, and am no longer constantly hungry and bloated.

Re: I've Come Back to Atkins
Earl Grey, I hear you. Even though the weight is hardly dropping off me, I feel so much better eating this way, and have so much more energy and no more cravings. That makes it easier for me to accept losing only 3-4 lbs a month.Originally posted by Earl Grey View PostIt's easy to start eating all the garbage you used to eat, gain the weight back and more. And easier to stay with this for the rest of my life.

Re: I've Come Back to Atkins
I absolutely agree with you, and your long term success is proof that your WOE is working for you. That's the mindset I am working to carry with me while I get back into living low-carb.Originally posted by RitaCeleste View PostIts taken me longer to loose the weight. By the way, I was Dr Atkins' patient back in 1978; my Dr, whose daughter had been treated by Atkins in 1972-73, referred me. So I learned from the Master, and am privileged to have done so.
