  • A journey

I went along to my doctor with digestion problems. He said if I reduced my carb count it would be an instant fix. I looked up low carb diets online and found Atkins Ta Da! I then did all the reading and research and decided to make the big change. I started Induction and stuck to it! I am a 55 year old male living in Australia. I had reached a tubby tummy weight of 98kg. I did not want to keep going and top the 100 mark. The doctor was right this diet was an instant fix. At the end of Induction I had dropped about 5 kg. That was encouraging. I maintained the diet and kept to the low carb veggies and fruits allowed. I am nearly a month post Induction now and I feel good and strangely energised. I have lost 14kg since the start of Induction now. More holes in the belt. my clothes don't bloody fit me and I couldn't be happier! I continue to very slowly loose weight and I am happy about that as I feel it will stay off and not just a quick loose fad diet.
    Regards to all.

    Welcome to ADBB!

What "fruits" are you talking about?

    Are you still on Induction?

You asked about fruits. On maintenance, the low carb fruits are.
      • cantaloupe
      • strawberry
      • watermelon
      • blue berry
      • honeydew melon
      • apricots
      • papaya
      • nectarines

All other fruits are higher in sugar.

Fruits can be introduced before Maintenance. Avocado is allowed during Induction. Berries can be added back in OWL Rung 4. Fruits (other than berries and melons) can be added back in OWL Rung 7.

Berries are generally low in net carbs (that's what we count on Atkins), which is why they can be added back in OWL Rung 4. Raspberries, although not on that list you posted, have only 5.44 net carbs in 100 g, which is less than what's found in blueberries (12.09 net carbs in 100 g) or strawberries (5.68 net carbs in 100 g). There are other examples as well.

So saying that "all other fruits are higher in sugar" is not correct.

            Re: A journey (maintenance)

The one fantastic thing about a forum is that not many of us can remember every little thing we once read in a book or online so we might leave out some small item. By touching base on these discussions we can share information and get helpful advice.
