  • Trying my darnest to get off this yo-yo life

Well, I am back once again. I started off real good last January but then took a dive off somewhere along the way. I have made several attempts to get back to doing Atkins but something always interferes. I have a lot of excuses, my daughter wants to go out and eat, all the supervisors are ordering lunch to be picked up, pot lucks at work, stress eating, craving for something like chicken fried steak with lots of gravy or all the dressing at Thanksgiving and now Christmas. I have a weakness for dressing. Sure, there was lots of turkey and ham, but who wants that when you can have dressing with cranberry sauce. And the list can go on and on.

I took several pictures during the holidays and I must say I am not impressed with myself at all. The pull over shirts that I wear make me look like I am pregnant at 47. My face is puffy all the times. I just look like I am worn out and I do not like that at all.

Well, on the trip home last night and after a steak sandwich and large order of TT and cheese from the Sonic, I decided this is enough.

I weighed in at 279.2 this morning on my scale, which I think is the same thing that I weighed last year when I started Atkins. I think my all time highest has been 283 and I made that last year. It is slowly going higher and higher each year. I have not measured my self again, but I will tomorrow morning.

I recently had my blood work done and everything is within normal limits, but that is due part to the medication that I have to take. I feel like a nursing home patient with all the pills that I am taking in the morning....Type II diabetic, HTN, and LDLs were too high.

Today marks my first born's birthday. He is 28 today. When I went in the hospital I weighed in at 199.5 lbs (not quite 200 lbs). I managed to lose the weight back down to 125, but over the years I slowly gained it back...divorce, children, going to college and then grad school, working weird hours, not eating right....it has all caught up with me.

Today is a new day. I do realize one thing, the more I read the boards and charted my progress, the better I did.

So, I am hoping that this will be the last time around. I can use all the support I can get.

I plan to get back on fit.com and read Atkins. I know a lot of the resources available to me, I just have to put them to use.

    Welcome back!

I think you'd find it very helpful to review those things that triggered you off plan - like dressing (I am also a dressing addict and not eating it isn't easy!) - and figure out new solutions and strategies to getting around those triggers.

Today IS a new day - and you can do it!

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Good for you getting back on plan! This is a great place to be and you'll find all the support you want or need. We're here for you - whatever you need, whenever you need it!

If you haven't already I hope you read the 2002 DANDR book it's the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase – check www.half.com or www.amazon.com. Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron vitamin daily.

Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your net carbs should be coming from.

Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html . If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.

Start a journal (if you haven't already) to keep yourself accountable
! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. Also, the new challenges are starting in a few days so look to see if there's something you'd like to join in with.

Good luck to you!! You can do this!

You're right... these are excuses. You are the only one responsible for what goes into your mouth... not your supervisors, your daughter... or Santa.

I have a weakness for dressing.
I'm sure you know you can still have dressing. You could try some recipes from Linda's website, if you can't find low carb dressing to buy.

Sure, there was lots of turkey and ham, but who wants that when you can have dressing with cranberry sauce.
You can make cranberry sauce with Splenda.

I use Hidden Valley Ranch dressing - I don't have any trouble with it. When I eat a salad I put the dressing on the side and dunk the salad into the dressing instead of pouring it on top....that way each bite has dressing and I actually use less.

              Good luck to you!!

Re: Trying my darnest to get off this yo-yo life

I think the dressing we are talking about is the one in the turkey not the one on salad.
I don't know if there is any good substitute for it.
But there are just some things we have to give up to lose those pounds. One day when you reach goal you can use low carb bread for it.

Bread for dressing or for stuffing? Just guessing here... but maybe a MiM could be used instead.

yep, I was talking about "dressing"...Cornbreading dressing is the best in the south. Once I get were i want to get i may try the stuffing made with low carb bread. At least I won't be making anymore cornbread stuffing until Thanksgiving and then maybe I can have some in moderation....if I am were I want to be at.
