  • Hello from Louisiana!! (second attempt)

I had to start over since they left us on an offshore platform without groceries and we had to resort to penaut butter and jelly sandwiches for a week!

Anyhoo, starting over with induction I am now on my second day.

    Question:
Because I stay very busy during the day sometimes I forget to eat. I know this is a bad thing but I was thinking of using the Atkins shakes as meal substitutes for breakfast and lunch and then having a good dinner.

    Has this worked for anyone?
    See a problem with this?

My goal is to lose 102 punds.
I am 5'9" and weighed in before I started at 282lbs.

I want to get to 180lbs.

anyone know where to get those cool signature trackers?

Re: Hello from Louisiana!! (second attempt)

Welcome back - I remember you from your last time here.

The shakes and bars are known to stall people and have ingredients not allowed on induction - the Atkins company is in business to make money, not help us get healthy. Higher on the rungs if you are in a jam you could use them occasionally.

You can go to www.tickerfactory.com for a weight ticker.

Food is easy to pack and take along - you can make recipes from Linda's site and freeze them for later. Canned tuna, frozen shrimp, salads, leftover chicken, roast beef, pork, etc -- all easy to take with you. If you plan meals out a couple days in advance you'll have everything at hand and it'll be easier to stay on plan.

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

If you need anything we’re here to help you!!

    Good luck to you!

Nice to see you back. Wow only sandwiches for how long? I would have been mad.

Not having those replacement shakes can be tricky. This diet is really a protein and fat diet and the more you stick to that, the better you do. Shakes and bars can stall some people. How about left overs (make really big suppers - I like left over ribs and wings) boiled eggs, roll ups using meats and vegetables. Salads with cheese and bacon. Tuna salads and lettuce.?

Atkins shakes are not meant to replace meals. And the fact that you want to have shakes instead of real food tells me that you don't forget to eat (otherwise you'd forget to drink the shakes, too), but you simply don't plan your meals properly. Planning takes some effort. Drinking shakes is the lazy way out.

You could cook larger recipes and reheat individual servings. That way you won't have to cook so often.

Thanks for the info on the shakes. I always thought "If it says Atkins on it, it is good" good to know better.

Like I said above, because it says "Atkins" it means the company is trying to make money!

Get yourself a dehydrator and make some jerky for when you are out on the rig. I am in the navy and when I go out to sea for months at a time, I take tons of home made jerky. It stores well, and if you make it yourself you can keep the carb totals low. Also, if you are going to be out for awhile take a few jicama with you. It doesn't need to be prepared and it will help you get some fiber.

Great idea with the jerky. And I cannot find Jicama in my town this time of year, it is one of my favorite snacks with a little lime juice and hot sauce!

I am on day 3 of the induction and I have lost 5 lbs so far. Is that normal? If I remember correctly the book states that 14lbs in 14 days is a good average, if I keep dropping at this rate I will have lost about 20 lbs + or - in 14 days.
What seems to be the norm out there?
I am also not exercising AT ALL.

There is no "normal" ... there's only what happens to you.

What anyone else lost is meaningless ... we all had different amounts to lose.

And the only thing that matters is what you lose.

Comparing yourself to someone else is bound to lead to disappointment ... for someone.

It's usually dependent on quite a few things.

                              1. Are you following the induction rules is probably the most important. It appears you are.

                              2. How much weight you have to lose.

                              3. How metabolically resistant you are to this WOE. You don't appear to be having any problems. There is a chart in the 2002 book that addresses this, I don't have mine handy to give you a better reference.

Just for reference purposes, I am down 18 through 12 days. I have always taken well to this WOE.
