  • sugar addict trying very hard...

    Hello forum members,

I am really excited to be joining this forum and finding some support. I have just completed the vicious cycle of losing 40 lbs and putting it all back on again. I know and recognize that my body does not do well with sugar, but it is a constant struggle. Sugar is really my drug!
So, here I am again. It is a bit tiring to be on this path, but after day 1 of induction- my energy is back up and although I am craving sugar, I know my body better without it.
I am looking forward to finding support, recipes and some good laughs here.

Any tips for beating the sugar cravings in those first couple of day?
    Cheers.

I agree with Atkinsgal08 on the no sweetener thing. Yesterday I had a sweetie in the mid morning and wanted them twice more yesterday. Today I stayed away from them, except for my morning tea, and I haven't had any cravings. If you are truly addicted to the sugar, it may not just be the substance, but the habit of putting sweets in your mouth whenever you crave them. Try to do without them and see what happens--you may be pleasantly surprised that you've broken your sugar addiction during induction.

        What's a "sweetie" exactly?

Atkinsgal, I had one of these with no whipped cream or food coloring. I recalculated the numbers without those things, and with the USDA program you shared with me to get .83 carbs. VERY low, but still, the cravings were there.

Looking at that recipe, I'm "stunned" by the amount of s/f syrup in one serving. The fact that you had craving should be a real red flag to you.

Right--it was. I decided against that particular choice the next day because I was craving so much sweet the day before. I was sort of surprised there was so much syrup in it as well, as I do only usually use half a tbsp at a time. Apparently, this is a problem area for me, so I will not be using this recipe until OWL, and perhaps even cutting some of the syrup.
