Hello, my name is Sue, and I'm here for a second start
A little history about me...
Three years ago I started Atkins at my all time highest weight, 226 lbs. I had been eating a 1200 calorie low fat diet and going to the gym for 4-6 hours a week, doing half cardio/half weight lifting. I could not lose weight, and I was frustrated. I never expected Atkins to do anything for me, I had already given up mentally, but decided to try it anyway.
I discovered that I was terribly addicted to sugar and white flour, and my body THRIVED on Atkins! I lost 40 pounds in less than 4 months, my sleep apnea improved, and I was full of energy. I continued with Atkins and over the next several months lost another few pounds. But after a year and a half on Atkins, I had a minor spinal surgery, couldn't get up to cook, started eating fast food, because it was what was brought to me, and as soon as sugar and flour hit my blood stream, I was on a slippery slope and couldn't find my footing again.
As the new two years passed, and I ate whatever I wanted, I slowly gained back the weight I had lost. When the scale hit 225.5, I sat down and cried. I cut out sugar and grains, and started restricting, although not counting, my carb intake. Three weeks in, I had a cheat day, I ate sushi, and had the worse sugar withdrawal headache the next day:-( Ugh! Then a letter arrived in the mail, saying that my husband's cholesterol has continued to rise although he has pretty much stuck to low carb eating since we started three years ago) and the doctor wants him on medication. Additionally, my sleep apnea has gotten much worse, and I know we both need this for our health.
So while I've been easing back into low carb eating for the past three weeks, today is official day 1 of re-induction for the both of us!
Ironically, I joined this forum three years ago, lurked and read a lot, but this is my first public post!

It's funny to come back to something that was a WOL for so long, that I thought I had all figured out, and find that there is more to learn;-) Hopefully I can make it to the finish line this time!
