Is sugar free jello with Redi whip topping ok for a low carb diet?

For a snack, I will have a can of low carb Slim Fast drink. I think I will fill an ice cube tray with the drink and make instant fudgesickles from them. Low carb, and good source of vitamins.

Sugar free jello has aspartame, which Dr. Atkins said for us to avoid because it causes weight loss stalls/slowdowns in about 25% of the people on his diet.

Redi Whip topping has sugar---either in the form of "sugar" or "high fructose corn syrup" (which is also sugar). Dr. Atkins said to avoid added sugar in all forms. You can make your own whipped topping by whipping heavy cream. Cream, however, is limited during the Induction Phase of Atkins.

I'm not familiar with the Slim Fast "low carb" shakes, but you'll have to read the ingredients to see if they are "legal" for your phase of Atkins. Just a caution, it's been the collective experience of ADBB members that those shakes and bars slow or stop weight loss in some people, so we don't encourage or advocate their use. Granted some people will have no problems with those things, and they are the "lucky" ones.

Thank You not2late, I will need to read the label more carefully. That may explain the weight loss stall i've been blaming on a plateau.

I spent a pretty hefty chunk of time reading sugar free gum labels at the supermarket and couldn't come up with one that didn't have aspartame.

Still, though, aspartame is one of a handful of sweeteners, so there probably isn't a huge amount in a stick/piece of gum. I don't think you'd want to chew it all the time, but I don't think a piece once in a while would be a problem.
