Just a fancy name for fried fruit!
I used to eat this for dessert when I went to the chinese restaurant. It is little pieces of fruit (I have eaten pineapple, banana and lichies, yummy), deep-fried in batter and swimming in a bowl of light caramel. They served it with little bowls of ice water to chill the fruit bofore eating, as it was served very hot.
This weekeend, having some time on my hands I decided to try to make my own low-carb version. I skipped the caramel part all together, but I guess you could use lowcarb syrups. I used lcky5l4 wonderful recipe for 1 carb doughnouts for the batter with a few modifications.
So the ingredients:
1 scoop of vanilla protein shake mix
1 egg
2 Tbsp melted butter
1 Tbsp water (you may have to use less or more)
half teaspoon baking powder
about 1 1/2 slices of fresh pineapple (i didnt measure really, I kept on frying until the batter was all used up. A little batter goes a long way)
Mix up all the ingredients for the batter. Add the water last, making sure the batter doesn't get too thin. Cut the fruit in bite size pieces. Coat the fruit in the batter and deep-fry until light brown in color. They are done really fast. I like to eat them hot, but they are tasty when cold.
I made another batch using banana for the family and it turned out very nice as well.
This recipe is only suitable for rung 7 and up. Just make sure you have help eating them, and watch your portions!
