  • unflavored gelatin fun

    what a great "free" snack!
take 4 envelopes of unflavored gelatin (i found the wal-mart super store was the cheapest place in my area to buy it) and one tub of crystal light and sprinkle into 1 cup boiling water. mix with an electric mixer. pour into a dinner plate and let it gel. cut into strips with a knife and peel off the plate. you can put it in the fridge if you want it a "rubbery" gel but i prefer it room temperature. be sure and wash the mixers right away in hot water or the gelatin is hard to get off later.
crystal light has such a variety of flavors you can choose sweet or tart or both and have quite the variety. i take a baggie of them to work to munch on in the afternoon...quilt free!

Chrystal Lite has Aspertame/Nurtrasweet and can seriously cause a stall not to mention all the concern about whether or not it's healthy to ingest. I know that just a taste will give me a super migraine. Atkins stresses that we should stay away from it.

Anyway, I think you could make the recipe with lemonade made with Splenda or Coolaid mixed with splenda and the gelatine. It sounds really goo otherwise and thanks dmblnd for posting it.

yes, of course you could use other kool aid type drinks. they have too much artificial color and stain your teeth. yes you can make it with sugar free jello as well. use two small jellos with two unflavored gelatin packs. i just don't like the taste of jello nor the ones made with the other drink mixes.
i've been eating five recipes of this a week and lose weight. i just lost 5 pounds in the last two weeks. i don't get headaches from it.
i don't do low carb for weight loss. i do it for diabetes. the weight loss (44 pounds) is secondary to my diabetes control and a great thing. if the sweetner causes you problems, then you shoudn't eat it! if it doesn't cause you problems (like it doesn't cause me any) then you can make an adult decision about what works for you. this works for me. it's tasty, keeps my cravings down by having a VERY low carb tasty snack that almost makes me feel like i'm having candy and doesn't affect my blood sugar.

An Atkins gummy worm. What a great idea.

I too use aspartame and have no trouble losing. And for the record there isn't any documented medical studies that say it does cause stalling or medical problems other then those experienced by PKU sufferers and they have that from birth any time they consume a food with phenylalamine a natural amino acid.
if it bothers you then avoid it.

Ok, I just went in an made it. My whole kitchen smells yummy. I only had two packs so mine may not turn out, but, we will see. If it doesn't, Ill put it in the refrigerator and have jello.

                      CHRYSTAL LIGHT

I read the lables CHRYSTAL LIGHT and in the dry for it contains aspertame, BUT in the already made up bottles it is made with SUCRALOSE. Isn't this what SPLENDA is and isn't it ok for ATKINS?

                        Thank you!

I tried to make knox gelatin with Sucralose and Cherry Extract tonight. I chose Cherry extract because it had less alcohol in it than many of the other extracts. It turned out to be globby, cough-syrup tasting soup.

I will definitely try this recipe with the bottled Crystal Light (made with Sucralose!) Thank you!

                          Re: unflavored gelatin fun

It is a matter of what agrees with you, I use stevia, sweet "n" low, and equal without side effects, and have for years prior to starting Atkins. When I ever started using Splenda, two weeks later, I got sick as a dog. Side effects so bad I was hospitalized, medicated, and missed work on a few occasions. Even my doctor was scratching his head for a while.

When I finally ceased using the Splenda after doing some research online, every symptom I'd experienced came to a screeching halt. Headaches, severe joint pain, kidney's swollen so bad I couldn't sit back in my chair, shooting pains through the kidney area, blurred vision, chest pains, weakness, fatigue and even hair loss! I was like walking death at 21 years old, and I am no weakling either. I have no existing health problems, and have a clean history as well. I don't have a lot of intolerances. I am convinced if I kept eating Splenda I wouldn't be sitting here right now. That stuff is garbage.

I am not trying to argue with anyone or put down anyone's opinions or statements, but I do see a lot of negative information regarding aspartame and saccharin on this board, and a lot of praise in regards to Splenda, and I have to make a big objection right now. Maybe aspartame might stall people's weight loss a bit, but I can say with confidence I truly believe it to be 100 times safer then Splenda. I have NEVER in my life been so adversely affected from anything I've ingested.

Dr. Atkins was a brilliant man, and is one of the people I respect most. I think at the time he updated DANDR Splenda was a fairly new thing and I truly believe he thought it was safe and beneficial to his plan. Had he remained around longer I'm sure he would have changed his mind...

                            Re: unflavored gelatin fun

Saccharin is actually a good artificial sweetener. It's been around for at least 100 years.

Personally, I use artificial sweeteners very sparingly because I find if I use them too frequently, my tastebuds develop a higher tolerance to sweet-tasting things and I have to use more and more and more to get that sweet taste.

Do you mean a small tube of crystal light that you use in a bottle of water or an actual tub of crystal light? The only sizes I found were the ones that make 1.5L or the tubes that make 500mL

                              Thanks
