  • curious about candy

I've never really been a sweets person, but I saw sugar free Russell Stover turtle candy in the grocery store today and was wondering if anyone ever eats this. I checked the label and it stated that there was .8 grams of NET carbs per candy. There were 17 grams of carbs, but 15 of them came from fiber and all the rest but .8 came from sugar alcohol (I have no idea what sugar alcohol is really).

It looks good. Is it ever acceptable?

Be careful! They give me terrible gas if I eat just 1 piece. If I have more than a serving (2 pieces), I will be in the bathroom for a long time! They taste great, but I have to assume that it isn't good for me if it gives me this bad of a reaction. Many people on the boards have said that they have the same reaction to sugar alcohols.

you sure those aren't Nestle sugar free turtle candy as Nestles owns the turtles brand?

you better go reread that bag as it says 1 gram of fiber and 17 grams of sugar alcohol and 19 total carbs. do a little sugar alcohol research so you know what you are getting yourself into. I call those the mythical magical noncounting counting carbs.
Me, I only subtract undigestible carbs from my carb total which would be only the fiber so a serving is 18 net carbs not something I'd like to eat when our recipe section is full of real counted carbs things to have instead.

it is definitely not for an inductee.

I have things like these occasionally when I want a special sweet treat, but for the most part I avoid sugar alcohols like the plague. Why? GAS! Oh, man, it's horrible.

No, Russell Stover makes them. I bought some and didn't really care for them. Now, the mint peppermint patties are a completely different story. Those little things are good.

Heidi, you crack me up! I don't eat them very often. I find that I don't lose as much when I eat them.

Explosive? Sounds like something Homeland Security needs to be made aware of. Armed with a few cases of SF Russel Stover's who knows what havoc a terror cell could wreak.

Hahahaha! LMAO, Scott, I had a good long laugh at that.

I hear sugar alcohols = stalling. I tried this WOE once before (for a nearly negligible amount of time) and I ate things like this. The fake low carb food... I never made it into Ketosis. It was discouraging. I don't recommend eating them at all.
