Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do.

    HOT CHOCOLATE DRINK MIX
This drink mix is a little different from the one in Splendid Low-Carbing. It is sweeter. Often this drink is all that is needed as a sweet to finish off a meal or to help soothe chocolate cravings. Take the mix on vacation!

Splendid Low-Carb Desserts, © April 2004, Jennifer Eloff

12/3 cups skim, OR whole milk (400 mL)
    powder
    1 cup SPLENDA® Granular (250 mL)
    35 SPLENDA® packets
2/3 cup Dutch cocoa (150 mL)
    1/8 Tsp salt (1 mL)

In large plastic container with lid, combine whole or skim milk powder, SPLENDA® Granular, SPLENDA®, cocoa and salt. Stir well. Seal container with lid and shake vigorously to further combine.

How to serve: Use 2 tbsp (25 mL) Hot Chocolate Drink Mix in a mug. Stir in 11/2 tsp (7 mL) to 1 tbsp (15 mL) whipping cream, using a tiny whisk, to form a paste. Fill the rest of the mug with water. Microwave one minute on high power. Whisk again. Add 1 tbsp (1 tbsp (15 mL) Da Vinci® Sugar Free Kahlua Syrup or any other flavor of choice for lifting this hot chocolate drink to a new level. (4.8 g Carbs)

Helpful Hint: One may use only 1 tbsp (15 mL) Hot Chocolate Drink Mix if using even 1 tbsp (15 mL) Da Vinci® Sugar Free Syrup of choice. (2.5 g Carbs)

Just so the newbies know this isn't legal for induction.

Hmm, have you ever seen powdered cream? I would be interested in finding it just for using it in baking...

I recently picked up some KEto powdered milk from Netrition (it was on clearance super cheap) haven't tried it yet though...

Nullo, expert foods puts out a dried cream. I hope to eventually purchase some for making eating chocolate.

2big, since powdered cream is so expensive, you might save yourself some money (and some carbs) by omitting the dried milk in the mix and using a higher ratio of cream to water when you put it all together.

Scott thats what I was going to suggest. I make my hot cocoa with half water, half heavy cream instead of the powered milk. I think its yummy. They also make Evaporated Cream, and it comes in a little can like Pet Milk does. Its pretty good, but not cheap.

Wow! But, I must protest a little - then it is no longer a hot chocolate drink mix (like Swiss Miss) - and besides, do you guys find 2.5 grams carbs (using 1 tbsp drink mix) for a nice hot chocolate drink is too much (I think Swiss Miss is 10 grams carbohydrate)? We're talking OWL here afterall? I think I have heard of powdered cream, although I have yet to find some. I do find whole milk powder though. You could possibly use some chocolate whey protein powder or even vanilla whey protein powder for some of the milk powder, but you will get a certain "taste" from the whey and some people might not like that. This is my favorite chocolate drink "mix" and it's just real handy, however, if I'm doing induction, I'll just mix cocoa, cream, chocolate DaVinci and water and heat in the microwave oven. For extra body and flavor, you could use a complimenting flavor in a decaffeinated tea and add the cocoa, cream and Davinci.

It wasn't the carbs we were looking for a way to make it legal for our inductees.

Just a suggestion but many many new to Atkins folk who make New yrs resolutions to lose weight will be on the net looking for ways to do Atkins and many many of them wil not have read the book so if you could list the phases of the program a recipe is for like OWL or higher or not ofr induction in your post then you would be helping them without even posting back to them.

                    Hi Jen :wave

I can see how the 'mix' idea is appealing to you. I'm not that paranoid of an extra carb here and there, it's just that if I were going to go through the effort of going to the refrigerator to get a tablespoon of cream anyway, I might as well add more cream, subbing it for the dried milk and save a carb in the process. That is probably taking it further away from the swiss miss mix realm, though, and for those that are fans of swiss miss, that might not be a good thing.
