  • H.J. Heinz....HYPOCRITES!

I guess this is more of a rant than a review but ONE CARB was announced WELL OVER a year ago and STILL.....NO KETCHUP!

I've e-mailed them numerous times over the past few months and the response has always been the same.......JANUARY :speechle:

ok, it's now FEBRUARY....where is it??

I think I know what's going on here, H.J. Heinz is postponing the launch of this product in HOPES the low carb way of life dies out because they OWN Weight Watchers.

Sure, Weight Watchers is NOW starting to market lower carb products but they STILL feel the need to slam the LCWOL with their outragious, non-medically PROVEN theories that low carb diets are unhealthy.....that's ok, Atkins isn't a "diet", it's a lifestyle change! diets are meant to be temporary....which is WHY "diets" only WORK temporarily, change your lifestyle and it becomes a permenant part of who you are (that's a no brainer, even for the low fat dieters)

H.J. Heinz hypocracy will cost them BILLIONS when all those "low fat" dieters begin to see the plot thicken.....either H.J. will sell out the low fat to low carb or they will continue to contradict themselves by selling the VERY PRODUCTS they warn consumers against using

If you are going to endorse one lifestyle and slam another, you can't play on both sides of the field :banghead

If you can't find it try this recipe. It tastes incredibly like Heinz. When I started induction, I bought Atkins ketchup for about $4.00. I made the same quantity of the recipe below for about 75 cents and it tasted much better.

2 small cans of tomato paste (12 fl oz)
    1/4 cup water
    1/3 cup vinegar
3 Tbsp granular Splenda - (I just used granular because I was out of packets.)
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tsp salt

Mix everything together and store it in the fridge. The only thing I would change next time is cutting back on the onion powder a bit - I found it a little too obvious. That could just be my brand, though...

Carbs per 1 Tbsp serving = approx 1.3

      Always assume stupidity before malice

Dan, that's... rather unlikely, to say the least. Why would Heinz announce a one-carb catsup if they weren't going to put it out? It wouldn't benefit them at all--and besides, no one's going to go "Hey! They have low-carb catsup now! Well, I wasn't sure about this whole Atkins thing but now I am completely and utterly convinced.!". A single condiment will not hurt WW profits. They're probably just having trouble with development.

Have you checked out the "Carb Sense" line of products?
They are just rebranded regular items without the carbs.

but then, why announce something if there's no intention of launching it in the near future?? we're not talking a few weeks.....they announced it in October of 2002!!

Their intentions were simple and now OBVIOUS.....lead the public to believe it would follow the so called "tend" (the way they view our lifestyle) and hope that it passes so they DON'T get stuck with a million bottles of worthless ketchup that nobody wants

If you visit the H.J. Heinz website, you'll notice there isn't even MENTION of a One Carb ketchup ANYWHERE, yet, it was announced the same time as the Organic ketchup which has been on shelves for nearly a year. I guess they're just too DARN busy coming up with "catchy" slogans to put on the labels

Weight Watchers was one of the leading diet programs in the U.S. and the world, H.J. Heinz is NOT going to abandon their diet "cash cow" simply for what they see as a "trend". If you have observed, WW has started a marketing campaign with their new "lower carb" products with a notation on each package entitled "The TRUTH about carbs". Why slam your OWN product line?? it's a small price to pay to attract more people to the "honest" seller......the "more bees with honey" mentality

This is also thier way of lashing out at consumers who made a choice......a choice to become thin WITHOUT Weight Watchers. Unilever (Slim Fast) has already been beaten, they gave in to the LCWOL but Weight Watchers is a giant....I believe H.J. Heinz would rather shut DOWN that division than to give in to LCWOL because that would be the same thing as admitting their diet doesn't WORK, nor has it ever

oh, and let's not forget about their french fry sales! Oreda is the #1 brand of frozen potato products in the US. The more french fries sold, the more Heinz ketchup sold......they go together. Where does One Carb ketchup fit in to their overall picture if french fry sales are down?

they'll lose money, no doubt it probably won't even scratch the surface of this "giant" corporation. Image is more important to them than overall sales because they are known as the "American family tradition"....and it sells more ketchup. They look at the long term picture and view the LCWOL as a short term "trend"

It's not that difficult to make a a lower carb ketchup....other product lines have done it and I'm sure the "king" of ketchup could do it even better, if they WANTED to.

I'm sure Carb Sense is ok and I'm willing to bet Carb Options will have a good ketchup in the near future but ketchup just isn't GOOD enough unless it's Heinz

There could be a million things that could slow a product launch though. Low-carb is a big cash cow of its own right now, and I'm sure Heinz would have it out if they could.

Try the Atkins brand ketchup though. I personally find ketchup in general to be distasteful, but the Atkins brand is worlds better than that sweet tasteless goop that Heinz sells.

I have a bottle of Atkins ketchup, it's rather bland in my opinion and double the cost of what it's worth, though I *do* like the fact that they attempted to make it somewhat thick, it's better as a dipping sauce for pork rinds (i mix in a little Tabasco sauce)

For now, I will continue to (sparingly) use regular Heinz ketchup on my hamburgers

Wow. Just... wow. You are, without a doubt, the most blindingly brilliant and rational person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I'd love to bask in your genius some more, but it would be rude of me to take up the space when so many others must be clammoring to surround you. I take my leave of you, o bright and shining one.

is this suppose to intimidate me or do you actually believe I'm here to feed my ego? I'm here like everyone else, my goals are like everyone else's....what's the problem?

my view isn't an eliteist view, I just think if a major corporation makes a statement they should STICK to their words. They made the claim but can't back-up their words and now we're just suppose to forget about it?? I don't think so

oh, by the way........where's YOUR picture?? your begining, current and goal weight? your location or better yet, why are you hiding behind a FALSE name?? are you hiding something or just embarrassed to be here?

it's pointless to argue with someone that doesn't WANT to exist here......sniper postings usually add up to nothing more than someone trying to "stir" the pot and they usually end up abandoning their name and changing membership names just to be a "bug in the ***" of an online community

I have NOTHING to hide........call it genius if you must, I call it PRIDE

my stats, picture, location and my name are REAL.....I won't be going away anytime soon and can be found in MOST internet directories (and search engines) So why would I need to make online enemies?

As is any weight loss plan if you go off of it . Heck, just ask anyone who has cheated, going back to your old ways off of this WOE just lets the lbs pile right back on. Weight Watchers is effective for some if they are happier with those food choices, but yes, it does require discipline to stay with the plan just like this does. Atkins is wonderful, and it is definately the WOE for me, but others have their own inclinations.

Try KETO brand Ketchup, easy to find at Kroger, GNC, pretty much anywhere. I actually like it better than regular ketchup, it advertises itself as a gourmet ketchup and is hands-down the best low carb product I have found.

Couple it with some mustard and put it on Nathan's hotdogs, yum
