  • Alfredo!!!!!

There it was, just sitting on the shelf with all the pasta sauce, :wave it looked at me and said "I'm made by Ragu, but my label is BLUE!"

So what, :sarcasm I thought, but there was something about the little feller, so I picked him up :confused

"2 carbs per serving" it shouted.

I turned it over, and read with disbelief, "No sugar, no corn syrup, no trans fat" ensive Could this be true? Finally something that might fit the bill.

There on the back, a recipe for Chicken Carbonara that would warm the heart of any Atkineer.

I brought it home, I cooked it tonite and had my serving over steamed brocolli. My DH "liked the sauce" and asked for more.

Carb Options, I love you!!! :hug

That sounds nice. Alfredo sauce in general does not have much carb content if home-made though. A good quality alfredo sauce is not much more than cream, butter, and parmesan cheese. It is those cheapy restaurants that try to skimp on the good stuff and thicken with starch that you have to worry about.

(same with demi-glace, if you get the real stuff it is wonderfully low-carb, but most 'family' restaurants will just thicken with starch or flour instead of taking time to properly reduce the stock).

Ok... dumb question.... is it made by Ragu, or Carb Options, or does Ragu make Carb Options.... LOL

You can see I don't buy premade sauces much, eh?

        Who makes it

Okay, here's the deal.. Carb Options trademark is owned by Unilever Foods which in turn owns:

        Lawry's
        Ragu
        Wishbone
        Skippy

and a host of other brands.

What seems to be the case is that they are taking some of their more popular items and producing a low-carb version under the Carb Options label.

While I would prefer making my own sauces, the cost of producing them on a regular basis would make a huge dint in my food budget. So these are certainly an excellent alternative. They aren't overly pricey either.

            HUGE RIP OFF

            Boycott companies like this.

Regular Ragu Alfredo Sauce - 3 carbs. And $1 cheaper.

Its like lo carb scetti sauce - Buy the Ragu no suger added, its 7 net carbs and $1 cheaper than their "lo carb" sauce. Which has the same number of carbs.
