Hmm, hope they aren't made with sugar alcohols or you may be spending the better part of this evening/night in the bathroom! Good Luck!

My husband ate the Russell Stover No sugar chocolate and he pigged out on it and was in the bathroom for two days.

To big--- how can they not count sugar alcohols in the carb counts? I thought the only thing we should subtract was fiber?

Fiber is the only thing! IMO its just a marketing gimmick to tell you you can subtract the sugar alcohols...I count them all.

And BTW the original poster learned a lesson yesterday from those gummy bears!

I was lucky. I scarfed the gummy bears down in about 10 minutes. It was late afternoon, so I suffered until the next morining, never again.

Re: Russell Stover No sugar Added Gummi Bears

if you read the label it does not say 0 in the nutrional label. they have made their own label and call it effect carbs or something like that.

This is where the mythical magical counting noncounting carbs info comes from. As you have seen most stuff is based on the Glycemic index testing methods so they feed the subject the foods and draw blood at certain intervals up to I think it is now 1 hr and they don't observe any measureable spike in the blood sugar which should have occured for say the 25 carbs in their candy so they say yep no effective carbs.
Well that is where they are manipulating the date cause they know that those compounds have two things going on first that have added soluble fibers to the compounds which slows the time out of the stomache so they could be doing the first blood draws while the candy is still being mashed up in your tummy. then they know that they have slowed down the passage so they should delay the blood test but do they nope you will not see any official 2-6 hrs worth of blood test results from those bars nor candy tests.
Next they know those undigestible compounds with the exception of SPlenda and Erythrosil sp? that they are metabolized by the microorganisms in your intestines into digestable compounds and will be absorped later on. (nice folk uh?) In theory since it hits later in your digestive tract there are less absoption sites to suck themup and metabolize them too but if you are an average new to low carber you have slower then normal bowels from your new lower fiber low carb food choices so now you are geting an effect from those carbs but hey the measuring is over and they got no reaction for you. if you were going to just have 3 guumies every few weeks then no you would not be effected but most carb addict low carbers are like our ADBB newbie and scarfed the whole "0" carb or ".2" carb container which along with they CYP effect added lots of other calories to their day too. Atkins used to have a cake 3000+ cals for the whole thing they claimed had just 24 net carbs. When Dr Atkins developed his plan if you wanted to endulge in cake you had to budget your carbs and have less then 1/24th of a cake for those same 24 carbs and about 180 cals according to the cake box mix I checked for the comparison. So what do you do? if you are smart low carber you count everything except that which has been proved to go in your mouth and out your rearend unchanges which is fiber and maybe if you got to have an occasional sweet treat you allow yourself one serving and flush everything else.

OH and FYI several of those SAs were used in medicine as the night before drug og choice for cleaning out bowels for proceedures,

2 Big: what can I say:: WOW. I should have known it would be something sneaky and horrible, just like making statistics 'sound' right, when in fact they don't really mean what they look like. If McDonalds, can lie to children, why do we think companies are not going to lie to we dieters: this is one of the biggest growing markets around, thanks to places like McD's. I wouldn't be surprised at any of these companies if they had a foot in each industry. Cheers & thx for the wake up call.
