I was really hesitant to start buying foods that are "created" rather than found around the perimeter of my grocery store, but I went to the Low-Carb Market (I'm so lucky to have one here!) here in Columbus and found this brand of hot cereal in a few different flavors. Pleased to see that in 1 serving, out of 13g carbs (ouch!) 12g were fiber. Something I could definitely live with, especially on OWL. The cashier recommended Cinnamon and Spice, so I bought it.
Recommended serving: 1/2 cup dry cereal and 1/2-3/4 cup boiling water. Well, I know what half a cup looks like and that wasn't going to cut it. So I went for the full cup. It's certainly not sweetened, that's for sure, so I had to add a packet of Splenda. (You might add two, but I'm saving my sweetener allowance for a decaf coffee later.) It also needed some butter, about 1/2 tbsp. for the two servings. By the way, I'm absolutely stuffed. You really do only need 1/2 cup; that stuff expands when wet.
It's very mealy and of course, tastes nothing like the Quaker cereals you're used to from growing up (oh, how I LOVED the Maple and Brown Sugar!), but if you're tired of eggs for breakfast, this is not a half bad substitute. I'll have to experiment with the different add-ins to see how best to eat the cereal.
I also forgot to add that it's got 6g fat and 12g protein per serving, so this really is an all-around healthy product for us!
The website is www.lowcarbsuccess.org, which is the name of the manufacturer. I bought it in the store for (I believe) $6.99, the same as most of the online retailers, but you'll have to pay for shipping.
