  • Low-carb Skippy Peanut Butter

Has anyone tried the low-carb Skippy Peanut Butter yet? I saw it tonight while at Super Wal-Mart. I didn't buy it since I'm still in Induction. Just curious for a possible future purchase.

    Thanks!

I have tried it. IMO, I like the natural peanut butter better. Tastes less processed, richer... and has no trans fats. HTH

Take it from me, as I am OBSESSED with peanut butter (in fact, pretty much any "butters") - natural is better. It might take some getting used to, but I completely echo what calyn said. The only difference would be the carb count, which is 1-2g lower than natural, so if that extra gram reeeaaallly matters (which I can understand for someone on OWL it may), then go for the skippy, cause it really is good. But once you get up there and have more leeway with your carbs, definitely go for the natural and avoid those nasty trans fats. I recommend Adam's natural pb, it is my favorite so far after several side-by-side comparisions. Another recommendation is Sunflower seed nut butter! I got this at trader joes, and it is amazing! I have started to like it more than pb! Also, it has slightly less calories and carbs and more fiber than pb.

Transfats (hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils) are a no-no, no matter what phase of Atkins you're on. If you're up to the nut rung of OWL, you can add peanut butter. The peanut butter that you want to add should not have sugar, simply peanuts and salt, in the ingredients list. You can also tell by looking at it -- peanut butter with no transfats will have the oil separated at the top of the jar. (You mix this in before eating it).

I don't know if SKIPPY has the bad oils or not -- I do know that the Carb Options PB does. Again, you can tell if it's OK by whether or not the oil sits up on top.

Edit to add: Well, DUH me.... Skippy and Carb Options are one in the same. I just checked the skippy web page and it does, unfortunately, contain hydrogenated oils.
