  • Low Carb syrup

I found a low carb syrup made by Smuckers and it is pretty good.

    It has per 1/4 cup:
    20 calories
    8g Carb
    0g Sugar
    7g Sugar Alcohol

It is a little runny, but still yummy! It will be good on some flax pancakes.

    Anyone else tried this?

Never tried it, but it looks interesting. Here's the ingredients:

WATER, SORBITOL, CELLULOSE GUM, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SALT, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, CARAMEL COLOR, XANTHAN GUM, PHOSPHORIC ACID, SORBIC ACID (A PRESERVATIVE), ACESULFAME POTASSIUM**, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE, ASPARTAME**+, SODIUM BENZOATE ADDED AS A PRESERVATIVE. **INGREDIENTS NOT IN REGULAR SYRUP.

The sf log cabin that I use has 12g sugar alcohols per servings, so this, at 7g, is an improvement. The lack of SAs is probably why it's a little on the runny side.

I'm a little disappointed by their choice of sweeteners, though. Splenda (sucralose) tastes a lot better than either aspartame or ace k. Not to mention that aspartame isn't on the acceptable foods list.

Can't say I have tried that one specifically... Its SA count is a bit high for me. The best one if I can find it in the stores is IMO DaVinci Pancake syrup, but the one I have found most often that has Sugar Alcohols as well is Vermont SF Maple Syrup @ 4g per serving. With a name like Smuckers though, it has to be good...

I have to agree with you scott that splenda would have been a better choice to sweeten it. I don't think I will use it very often, so hopefully the aspartame will not affect me that bad.

Kent, I have the vanilla Da Vinci syrup and I love it! Our grocery store only has the vanilla and I want to say hazlenut, but I think Publix has the poliicy if you ask for it then they will stock it. May have to try that option.

I remember a long time ago, someone posted the runny factor with the syrups and was given the advice to mix the syrup with some softened butter then put it on whatever you're eating.

That is really good advice not2late. Mmmmm. I bet that would be really good on some flax pancakes.

              Re: Low Carb syrup

Made the pancakes for the first time today. (I am sick and breakfast food is always comforting to me...forget the chicken soup...although that is good too.) I found the Vermont SF at Shoppers, and it was the only thing they had so I went with it. The pancakes themselves were great...very close to those carb laden ones I used to eat, but the syrup needs some tweaking. Everyone is right that butter makes it better. Does anyone know of a LC Syrup recipe??
