  • Soy flour?

I've noticed in some of the Atkin's recipes that you can use soy flour for breading, etc.

Does anyone know if soy flour is an adequate replacement for white flour in most recipes? By the way, I've tried the Atkin's Bake Mix and really found it distasteful. I've only tried it once so maybe I should try it in a different recipe, but I could barely eat it the first time around. Blech!

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this.

    Thanks!

Jemma, I think the answer is no, mostly because personnally I think soy tastes nasty. But you might want to post this question for Naja. I am sure she'll help you, she just missed this.

Atkins bake mix is soy based so if you didn't like the flavor of it you won't like soy flour. You want to use a proteinpowder for your flour any way so you can get whey, soy, rice, and egg protein powders. Find the one you like and use it. I use whey, It is a little drier so I have to adjust my recipes slightly but i like it. You can also on OWL use ground nuts as flour or flax seed meal.

I just bought a bag of soy flour. Now I'm not sure what to do with it !!!Any ideas? Recipes? So far, I've mixed it with flax seed meal, bakeing powder, and egg to make pancakes. Wasn't too bad.

            Flax Seed Meal

I just bought some flax seed meal over the weekend and have been enjoying the pancakes! Anyway, I also used it for breading and it was ok as well. But, I wondered what the best flour replacement is. Whole foods had both yellow and white flax seed meal. I bought yellow because I was thinking pancakes but I thought maybe the white would be bettter for breading?

            Thanks

The bag for Bob's Red Mill soy flour says that soy flour will not rise like white flour, so you can't use it as a total replacement in things like bread.
