  • Flavored vodka and rum?

    I'm perplexed about this,
I know clear rum and vodka is okay to have once and awhile, but what about Absolut Citron, Mandarin or Bacardi Limon?
Those are my favorites and they don't *taste* sweet to me but I don't know if they harbor hidden sugar or not. My favorite is Absolut Mandarin with Soda and a lime wedge which I have sometimes after work (bartender)

    Any imput is appreciated!! =)

I don't drink, so I am the wrong person to respond, but I lived in Puerto Rico and I know rum is made from sugar cane. What does that tell you?

i also love absolut citron and even emailed the absolut site lol and got a response. although i deleted the email, i can tell you that he said they do NOT use sugar or any carbs to flavor the vodka. he assured me that is is 0 carbs. yay!! lol so stick with that and seltzer/club soda and a lemon/lime. that is my drink of choice when i have anything. i used to drink it with 7-up--not any more!!

The Coconut Rums (like Malibu and Parrot Bay) are sweeted with sugars as part of flavoring though - I believe they have about 4-5 carb grams per serving (depending on the brand). I stick to those flavored vodka's, I love the Vanilla with diet ginger ale or diet coke. The Citron/Manderin with soda and lime sounds good too though

Regular rum, although made with sugar cane, isn't as carb heavy as you'd think (although the coconut flavored ones are)

Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum contains approximately 75 calories per 1 1/4 oz. serving size, 0 grams of fat and .4 grams of carbohydrates.

Captain Morgan Silver Spiced Rum contains approximately 80 calories per 1 1/4 oz. serving size, 0 grams of fat and 2 grams of carbohydrates.

Captain Morgan's Parrot Bay contains approximately 82 calories per 1 1/4 oz. serving size, 0 grams of fat and 7.8 grams of carbohydrates.

Captain Morgan Private Stock contains approximately 94 calories per 1 1/4 oz. serving size, 0 grams of fat and 2.7 grams of carbohydrates.

As stated, the Absolut flavored vodkas are 0 carb. I think I heard that the Smirnoff's are about 1 carb per shot.

to Me: thanks for your posts on the carb content of various rums....where on earth can you find that info??

I have really started to have fun making low-carb drinks. Here are some of my faves:

Bloody Marys (many vegetable and tomato juices have only 1 carb per ounce...you can make a nice drink using only 3 ounces of these as a mix, adding ice, vodka and water if needed to create a nice large drink....I garnish it with Olives and/or Celery sticks or whole firm Green Beans.

Any no or low-carb alcohol pureed in the blender with ice, no-cal flavored sweet syrups or low-carb lemonade and, if desired, creams, tonics or diet drinks....there are so many good options out there that I stopped buying the low-carb drink mixes once I realized that I could make almost anything that I wanted at home. You might also consider keeping a small can of tomato juice or V-8 (instead of the often hi-carb bloody mixes used at bars) or sugar-free flavoring along when you go out and want to drink something other than wine--bartenders are usually very cooperative and can make you exactly what you want.

Not much. What a hard alcohol was originally made from has little or no effect on its carb content. By the time it reaches the bottle, it's been fermented and distilled so many times that all the carbs are gone. After all, vodka is made from potatoes and whiskey is made from grain, and neither have any carbs. :joy

                              Smirnoff

I remember drinking something in a bottle with Vodka in it. It of course was when the low carb craze was going on awhile back and had it stated on the box carb count. I dont see anything listed on the boxes in the stores anymore... I couldnt even find the info on their site. Does anyone know the carb count for a bottle (much like a bottle of beer but with many flavors) of Smirnoff goes for?
