  • Atkins BBQ Sauce -- Blechh -- Any other suggestions?

Any BBQ sauce suggestions? I just opened my Atkins BBQ sauce and I thought it tasted almost like my Atkins teryaki sauce. I like the teryaki OK, but I would prefer a BBQ sauce that was a bit tastier! My old favorite was KC Masterpiece. Any suggestions, or should I give it up and try to make my own?

I am a huge bbq fan - I smoke all of my own meats and grill out a ton. I refuse to give up bbq sauce, I don't care what's in it. A few Tablespoons isn't going to kill you.

I've found that the sauces made by Steele's are very good (I've only tried the ketchup, but have heard rave reviews of the BBQ sauce)

Here is an idea for bbq:

a dry rub....good for ribs, chops, or chicken.

        1 tablespoon paprika
        2 teaspoons chili powder
        3/4 teaspoon salt
        1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
        1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
        1/8 teaspoon pepper

This is enough for 3lb. of ribs, or about 3 servins. If 3 of you eat the entire recipe you'll each get 2 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of fiber.

Thanks you all! I will look for Steele's and try the rub. I thought I saw a sauce recipe on the recipe board somewhere, but I have not been able to find it! I had the last ribs with no sauce (still good since they were slow cooked in our smoker for four hours!), but I do miss some sauce!

I like bar-b-que sauce (KC masterpiece is good), but have given it up for now. Tried Atkins Bar-b-que sauce, my husband and son liked it ok. Don't think they would choose it over KC, but it'll do.

I did eat in a Truck stop that I like to visit. They have great a Bar-b-que pork dinner. I asked for the BBQ sauce on the side and just dipped my fork in the sauce, shook it off then took a bite of the meat. I got the taste of the sauce but very little carbs. (maybe ate a half a teaspoon total of sauce). I knew it had sugar in the sauce, but really just wanted a taste!

Chris & Pitt's BBQ sauce is the lowest carb BBQ I've found so far in markets (not that I've looked very hard, BBQ's not my favorite). I'm not at home right now or I'd check my fridge, but I believe it's something along the lines of 7g per 2 tbsp, and it's pretty tasty.

                Sauce

LindaJay, you might want to try adding a little Liquid Smoke to your Atkins sauce. I have not tried doing that, and I'm not sure about the carbs in Liquid Smoke, but adding it might make the Atkins sauce taste a little more like KC's.
