  • Russell Stover SF Candy

Has anyone tried the new Russell Stover SF Candies? They are so good, and the variety in the box is great! There's something for everyone.

However, they're using Lactitol, and I don't think it agrees with me, if the rumbling tummy is any indication.

The Hershey's SF Chocolate Candy also uses Lactitol, but I haven't tried them yet.

Lots of folks say they use candies made with sugar alcohol as a laxitive. Hope your not going out later.

the butter nut toffee things russell stover makes are very good...they have some that are covered in chocolately stuff then rolled in nuts. they're shaped like sticks. very good.

i much prefer the reese's sf peanut butter cups though to russell stover. same thing with the sf turtles instead of the stover pecan clusters. there's something slightly waxy about the russell stover chocolate coating.

I've also seen, but not tried, the Russell Stover low carb candy. I believe these are different from the sugar free stuff. Check it out.

          yumm

I've tried the RS Low Carb candies, a number of different types and all are delicious. Actually, I gave some to friends, and they had no idea they were 'fake' I am most fond of the chocolate 'truffles'!!

            Just wondering

What's the difference between the RS Low carb and Sugar free candies? I saw an ad for the lo-carb ones recently, and I see they have the different colored (red) wrappers. But, is it the same as the sugar-free, just in a different package? Do the lo-carb ones also have a laxative effect?

            Thanks,
            Donna

I haven't taken out the magnifying glass to the low-carb versus the sugar-free ones. I did ask the clerk at our local RS outlet about the difference. She said there wasn't much difference; the low-carb were just newer. Again, I must disclaim, I didn't do an ingredient by ingredient comparison. For my purposes (I can only eat 1/4 of a serving a day due to digestive effects), I wasn't too concerned about the difference.

Just visited the Russell Stover site. They have complete nutritional info for their SF candy but not their LC.

As an example, their SF Milk Chocolate Pecan Delights (17g = .6oz) has:
              6g fat
              9g carb
              7g sugar alcohols
              1g protein

Their LC Pecan Delight (1oz) is advertised as having 1.2g of carbs.

Obviously, comparing these two show that the SF has more carbs than the LC, but close enough for my use and pocketbook (the SF were significantly cheaper than the LC at the outlet store.) Close enough when I would cut either of these into quarters or eighths and stretch it over two to four days.

I absolutely love the Russell Stover sugar free and low carb candies. But, I have been told that you can't go by the NET carbs they claim. I was doing that and even though I only ate one or two pieces a day, my weight loss absolutely came to a halt. If you eat this stuff at all, you need to count ALL the carbs. I have been off the candy completely for a week now and am finally starting to lose again. I was stalled for months and did not know why. So beware.
