  • Mt. Olive Sugar-free pickle products.

They are sweetened with Splenda. I haven't tried the pickle relish or the sandwich slices yet. But here's my take on the Bread and Butter Chips and the Sweet Gherkins.

    Bread and Butter Chips:
Appearance: looks like a regular bread and butter chip.
Texture: Alittle soggy for a bread and butter chip. Mine had a slightly slimy mouthfeel.
Taste: Decent, but alittle overly sweet pickle flavor at first, but the Splenda aftertaste is noticeable when eaten plain. But when eaten in bread-less sandwich or chopped and mixed into tuna, chicken or egg salad, it does lend a crunch, pickle flavor and the Splenda aftertaste isn't as noticeable.

Overall impression: Good, but don't eat them plain.

    Sweet Gherkins:
Appearance: looks like a regular gherkin.
Texture: Nice crisp crunch and snaps when you break it in half.
Taste: Not overly sweet. Good pickle flavor. No Splenda aftertaste.

Overall impression: Very good. The drawback is that one gherkin is 1 carb. So you really got to exercise portion control.

Even with dill pickles -- there is one carb per pickle or spear. I love pickles and sometimes crave them like other people crave chocolate! I have only been able to find the s/f bread and butter ones in Baltimore (Giant, Safeway, SuperFresh, Metro). Please let me know what grocery chains carry the other varieties, so if I am near one, I can check it out.

Also, for tuna salad, I used dill pickles last time (after a lifetime of sweet pickles!) and like it better. The flavor of the tuna (white, in the foil pouch) and the onion, overpower the pickle flavor, so I didn't miss the "sweet" at all.

Hi LindaJay I live near the Prince George's-Calvert-Charles tri-county area in Maryland. I've found the bread and butter, gherkins and sandwich stackers at Giant and Safeway. The relish at Shoppers Food Warehouse, Giant and Safeway. We don't have Superfresh in our area anymore and I haven't been in Food Lion in eons.

The gherkins are relatively new. Giant was the only place selling them two weeks ago and I just saw them at Safeway today.

(Giant also has the La Victoria salsa suprema medium heat I reviewed in another thread and low(ish) carb pasta sauces called Victoria pasta sauce and Rao's. )

lol, let me tell you something about low carbers in the area. I went to three different grocery stores after I got my electricity back this week and there wasn't a single bag of pork rinds and macadamia nuts on the shelf! It was dreadfully obvious how they prepared for Isabel

I'm afraid I did not care for the Mt. Olive brand at all. Much too sweet, and I found the Splenda aftertaste unpleasant.

Thanks Not2Late! The Safeway here now has the relish, so hopefully the rest will come later. I know what you mean about the pork rinds -- I now always get 2 bags of the Utz BBQ ones since they seem to fly off the shelf here! PS -- they have big containers of macadamia nuts and almonds at Sams. I was on Atkins about three weeks before I finally gave in and bought pork rinds (even though I am originally from Tennessee!). But those little crunchies sure come in handy!

I thought the relish was great in Chicken, tuna and egg salads.
