  • Walden Farms Products-tweeking makes a difference

I've been using the Walden Farms products and find they are variable, but they can be a great base and reduce calories for those of us who must manage both carbs and calories.

My favorite dressings are the bacon, french, raspberry that all work well as is.Adding some seasonings, chopped onion/scallions, bacon, etc, to any of the savory dressings makes a big difference.

I love the syrup, but it seems more like the real thing by melting some butter in it before using. Also, by adding some chopped walnuts/pecans it makes both a good atkins pancake/crepe topping, but also a good topping for atkins ice cream.

The WF mayo is very tolerable alone, but by adding a tablespoon of real mayo, it takes on that flavor and so extends it. Adding horseradish makes a great spread or topping for beef; adding no-sugar pickle relish makes a great tuna/crab/salmon dressing, etc.

The flavored syrups have been less useful, thought I experimented with the choc-syrup adding it to hemp milk (lo cal/carb), adding 1T cream and blending to create a very nice choc-milk.

    Hope this helps.

    Those are good thoughts.
I find that some of the Walden products are just chemicals with some thickener added (like their dressings) And I often think I really do not want to eat that. But I like their barbeque sauces. So I pick my Walden choices carefully

I have never tried hemp milk. I think I am going to look into it.

Well...WF is the epitome of frankenfoods. I still have a lot of them from when I first tried low carbing a while back. That said, I have used some of the spreads and the chocolate and caramel dips aren't bad. I have to say though that if I didn't have them sitting in the fridge I would not use them. Still haven't cracked open the jar of marshmallow dip. The BBQ sauces aren't bad either even though Linda Low Carb's recipes are far superior.

Most of the WF products aren't suitable for Atkins Induction and many aren't allowed until various OWL rungs. I found it is better (tastier and healthier) to just make homemade versions of these foods. PLUS, on Atkins we can have full-fat items so why would one subject themselves to their salad dressings??? Sorry, but those were bad.

You are right in that these products need tweaking, but IMO homemade is better than tweaked chemicals.

I havent found much I liked with WF. For syrup I prefer the Cary's/Carey's brand myself.
