  • Naja... a question about Yam Noodles

    Hello!
I could not find any Yam Noodles but found some Sweet Potato Noodle. It states 0 carbs..... but the ingredient is Sweet Potato Starch.. and that is about all...

What do you think about eating those? I thought starch was out...

Sweet potato noodles are definitely not the same as shirataki or konnyaku, products made with a Japanese yam. However I'm not sure how they may be translating "Japanese yam" on your package. They might well call it a "sweet potato". Could you post a scan of the item? The ingredients in the shirataki package I have are "purified water, yam flour and hydrated lime".

There are a lot of interesting noodle products out there and most of them are *not* low carb, so beware.

That calorie count is rather high for shirataki.

        My package says:

        3 oz serving size
        Calories: 10
        Fat calories: 0
        Total fat 0g
        Sodium 0mg
        Total carb 2g
        Protein 0g
        Calcium 6% Iron 2%

          Hi Naja,
          May Package states:
          My:
          Ingredients:
          Sweet Potato Starch, Water.

          Nutrtion Facts:
          Serving Size 2 oz
          Calories: 200
          Calories from Fat: 10
          Total Fat: 1 g
          Sodium: 0
          Total Carb. 1 g 0% ?
          Protein: 1 g

That is very low carb... but it is starch... so not allowed on Atkins???
They were so delicious! Sort of glassy but very much like pasta....

What do you think? Yes or No?

I think there is something majorly wrong with the nutritional count on the label. 200 calories, 1 gram of fat, 1 gram of carbs, 1 gram of protein? Where are all the calories coming from if only 10 of them are from fat?

Sweet potato starch is definitely not low in carbs.

Strange. The store owner himself brought them to me when I asked for Low Carb products specifically Yam Noodle.

I wonder if there is a government body that has control over the accuracy of the Nutritional Facts on a food product??

I ate the entire package! (not all at once but several different meals) And my weight was up next day...
