  • Anyone try the "Ole" High Fiber Low Carb Tortillas?

I found these at Kroger today and I almost fell over when I read the nutrition! 5g Carb + 12g FIBER! No sugar, no cholesterol, no lard -

Here is a link to the nutrition label = Calories in Ole High Fiber Low Carb Tortilla - Nutrition Facts, and Healthy Alternatives - The Daily Plate Calorie Counter

I am on my second week of induction -- this is okay to eat right since its so high fiber, low in carbs? I'll be so sad if it isn't, but get over it. =)

Something looks wrong with that, I have never seen more fiber than carbs before. Is it possible

Now, no lard isn't really a good thing. We like lard.

No, they are still not induction friendly unfortunately.

Would you mind explaining why? Just because it doesn't have lard in it? I thought the high fiber was good?

The Ole website does not list ingredients or any information for their products but I'm guessing that these have wheat and other grains in them. They look like an interesting option to try once you get to the OWL 9 grain rung (pre-maintenance). Sorry to be a buzzkill.

Mizski's right ... it's not just about the net carb count ... it's about the ingredients, too.

And ... Daily Plate doesn't always have correct label information.

Why not post the list of ingredients ... and there's no way there can be more fiber than total carbs ... at least in the US.

Okay -- first I will list the nutrition facts from the package, and then the ingredient list::

            Total Fat - 2g
            Sat Fat - 1 g
            Trans - 0
            Choles - 0
            Sodium - 234mg
            total carb - 5g
            fiber - 12g
            sugars - 0
            protein - 8g

water, whole wheat flour, enriched bleached flour, virgin olive oil, oat fiber, soy protein, celullose flour, wheat gluten, baking powder, fumaric acid, sodium acid, pyrophosphate, salt, monocalcium phosphate, modified wheat protein, yeast, cmc, gum, mono and diglycerides, lecithin, sorbic acid (mold inhibitor), enzymes.

I understand now about the whole grain rung. I let my excitement about my find make me forget I would take a picture and show you, but my husband is in charge of that fancy high stuff, and he's not around. Surely the label isn't wrong??

              Not allowed on Induction.

              That can't be right.

I know. I kept trying to figure out how they could get 5g total carbs. I bake my own breads (yes, still do for Mr. Ski) and all those grains are very carby. With the second and third ingredients being flour, that alone would make the total carbs much higher. Perhaps they mean net carbs? Still, shame on them for such an erroneous label.

I just sent an email - thanks for finding that and sharing.

As to the erroneous label -- how can that be? I mean, these things are regulated by the FDA, right? If not, how often are the labels wrong? Which ones can and can't be trusted?

                      This concerns me!

When you're not sure if the label is correct, you can use a hidden carbs calculator: Low Carb Diet Tools - Hidden-Carbs Calculator

Depends on what you mean by "wrong".

And 99% of the time when you see 0 carbs on a label ... it's "wrong".

The labeling law allows for rounding.
