It seems like there are hardly any products in the UKwhich advertise being low carb. Am I wrong? Can someone point me in the direction of good low card products maybe not just available online?

The only place I have discovered which sell Atkins bars is Boots the Chemists. They used to sell an Atkins wafer chocolate bar which I cannot seem to find any more. I am not interested in the shakes or the Morning bars but are there any other products to look out for? I am about to start OWL so I am thinking ahead.

    Hi there

You really are better sticking to real food rather than replacements. Try and go for meats, cheese, butter, cream, veg etc.

If you really want to get hold of Atkins and Low Carb products, then the best place in the UK is www.lowcarbmegastore.co.uk

    I hope this helps x

      Re: UK help

Thanks for the web link Zarabelle.

I just had a quick peek and spotted some sauces. Are these sort of things any good? I mean that cannot be just junk, can it? I mean I'd like to stick predominently with meats, cheese, butter, cream, veg but convenience sometimes wins over best intentions. I'd rather have a few things to use in a pinch rather than turn to the things I keep in the house for my husband and my 2 year old. Don't get me wrong she doesn't get loads of gunk food but sometimes those things I keep for a treat for her call out for me!

I'm assuming that sauces will be just like normal sauces but with sugar replaced with sweentener?

        >>that cannot be just junk, can it?>>

        Sure it can.

        >> I'm assuming that sauces will be just like normal sauces but with sugar replaced with sweentener?>>

Not necessarily. There's a whole company here in the US that has "zero calorie, zero carb, zero whatever" sauces that are nothing but chemicals in a bottle. And they taste it, too.

Depending on what it is you're looking for, making it yourself or simply doing without is the best choice.

          Thanks for your reply atkinsgal08

Yeah we currently do a good job of making it ourselves and enjoying the experience but some days after a day at work and my 2 year olds temper tantrums we need a break!

I have a few easy recepies where we can put cream and some spices together and make a main course. Or paprika, lemon and garlic on the stove is jummy. I'm looking for variety and convenience on those difficult days though. I mean we have been trying to buy fresh and local and cook ourselves for a while now because those sauces which include sugar have so many preservatives. Do you think that all bottled sauces are bad or the low carb ones are worse?

I am just about to stock up on things for OWL and there's a few things I need some help with.

I hate veggies, I am looking for ways to increase those and hide the taste a bit. I thought about doing some eggplant slices and frying them but can I eat them cold or reheat them later? I was thinking peanut butter with celery but I need to increase on the veggie rung before I get to the nut rung!

Berries are also a problem. I'm not a big fan. I love bananas and don't mind an orange or apple but those are not allowed. I have looked at the idea of dried berries and I have found "Urban Fresh Dried Strawberries" from Tesco's which state they have no added sugar. They state "And added sugars and preservatives? Yuk. No way. Never ever." and the ingredients are "Strawberries 54%, Apple Juice 43.5%, Lemon Juice 2%, Vegetable Oil 0.5%" but the carb contant is 77% per 100g. That looks bad to me or is that OK because I will only have enough to increase my carb increase per day an extra 5g meaning I can only have about 6/7g of them?

You have to read the list of ingredients and sometimes taste test the low carb version.

            >> I hate veggies,>>

That's unfortunate since the foundation of Atkins is vegetables.

            >>I thought about doing some eggplant slices and frying them but can I eat them cold or reheat them later?>>

            Yes.

The dried berries that you listed above are not good choices.

            >>I was thinking peanut butter with celery but I need to increase on the veggie rung before I get to the nut rung!>>

            True.

Have you checked out this site:

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home There's lots of ways to "hide" vegetables there.
