  • Anyone Tried Sea Kelp Noodles?

I saw these mentioned on another board and was curious if anyone here has tried them. I've tried the shirataki/miracle noodle types and did not like them at all. These noodles are made from kelp which is a sea veggie. They sound interesting and are low carb and gluten free.

I've seen something similar at the local international grocery store. They are imported from Japan or China and the ingredients (and cooking instructions) are in Japanese or Chinese. So I never tried them because I can't read Japanese or Chinese.

I found this website, and in their FAQ they say their "noodles are neutral in taste and surprisingly not sea-like, which lends to their versatility." Sea Tangle Noodle Company: FAQ I also tried the shirataki noodles and could not stand the smell, taste or texture. Yucky!

The shiritaki texture is chewy...sort of like those Japanese udon noodles. That's why I don't think they make a good Italian pasta substitute. However in Asian style soups and dishes they have a tendency to do better. Just a warning about using them in soups.....they'll soak up all the liquid if you give them a chance.

So, mizski, did you try the kelp noodles out?

No, I haven't even ordered them yet. We don't have any Asian markets here on Cape Cod and the minimum order is 12 packs so I've been scoping out various message boards to try and get some reviews on them.

I'm pretty adventurous food-wise so if that plan bombs I might just order them to try anyways. I really miss my Asian noodle soups and those shirataki noodles just didn't cut it for me...NOT at all.
