  • Rolled Round Steak

This is a recipe that I came up with a couple of weeks ago in a frenzy of Atkins induced low-carb food searching.

    Ingredients
    ----------
1 Steak (you can use top round or some such steak)
    1 oz cream cheese
    fresh basil (2-3 leaves chopped)
    1-2 cloves garlic
    1 tbsp butter
    3 medium mushrooms, chopped

Pound the steak flat and season as you desire. I just use a bit of salt and pepper. Saute the chopped garlic and mushrooms in butter until the mushrooms are soft. Soften the cream cheese and mix in the fresh basil. Lay the steak out and spread the cream cheese mixture over the meat. Spread the garlic and mushrooms over the cream cheese. Roll the steak tightly and secure with toothpicks. Place in a pan and broil in the oven for about 20 minutes or until it's done as you desire.

A heavy knife handle, a hammer, or even a fist (which I used) will work just as well.

I bought a wooden meat pounder at the dollar store that works wonderfully.
