Is that what that strange taste in the skyline chili was? Sorry but that was the nastiest "chili" I have ever tasted :tounge

      Probably...that's why it's such a dark color.

I kept thinking cinnamon or something-at any rate it was definatley a spice that my taste buds did not associate w/ chili and it looks like that Texas Pete hotdog chili that comes in a can.

I'm very interested in this. Where do you find and what does it look like? I LOVE TABASCO SAUCE!!

Skyline has a lot of stuff in it, Cinncinnatti style chili uses a lot of spices you might not assosciate with traditional chili.

Personally, I love the stuff, I think it is awesome, but if you go into it expecting regular chili you will be somewhat surprised. When I make my Cincy style I use cocoa, coffee grinds, clove, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, sage, cumin, cayenne, chipotles, and other stuff that I see fit. It all blends together into this great sorta murkey smooth spicey dark tasting stuff.

Yeah, Cincy style chili really has more in common with Curries IMO than it does with Texas style chili, I suppose it depends on how you think about it.

Then again, don't discount cocoa completely as an ingredient in non-sweet dishes. After all, it is one of the key ingredients in Mole.

In general you can use it as a sauce for lots of long-stewed mexican dishes. Think of it as an ultra-rich mexican gravey.
