  • Tasty Bites - Peas Paneer

Tasty Bites has a pretty good product line that doesn't have added sugar and generally had good healthy veggies and such. Entrees are generally pretty low carb (in the 5g per serving range).

I hadn't tried the Peas Paneer until the other day. From the label, I'm getting slightly less than a gram per serving, which is GREAT. But, I'm feeling like those numbers don't seem to follow from the list of ingredients. Looked it up online, and got the same information as was on the box I purchased:

    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    OBob

Looks like they use the european method of subtracting the fiber out of the total carbs so the total would really be 13.5 minus the 6.3 fiber = 7.2 net

Jaw hitting floor. Thanks for the info Chicklady. I had no idea there was a difference in labeling/measuring standards between the US and Europe. This may help explain why I seem to have gained a few pounds on my recent 3 week trip to Europe. It was hard enough finding low-carb food over there, and I bent my standards a little bit as a result. Now that I know I was eating substantially more than I thought, well all I can say is... well, it's got four letters.

The Tasty Bites do look pretty solid for maintenance phase eating. Don't look like they contain any added sugar or other superfluous carbs. But, it looks like they have to come back out of my eating plan for the time being.

Also, thanks to your input, I found this article (which makes a passing reference to the difference in labeling/measuring standards).

It opened my eyes to issues with some sugar alcohols. While I mainly avoided sugar alcohols during the first 7 or 8 months of Atkins, I allowed more of them in the past 6 months. I've also been largely stalled during that time. I think it's time to get maltitol back out of my life.
