  • Low Carb Indian Butter Chicken

This is soooo creamy and good!

    Butter Chicken Recipe

    1 TSP-CUMIN
    1 CuP-TOMATO SAUCE
    1 TBS-GINGER
    1 CuP-HEAVY CREAM
    1 TSP-GARAM MASALA *
    0.25 TSP-SALT
    0.25 TSP-CAYENNE PEPPER
    1 TBS-CILANTRO
    1 TBS-CRUSHED GARLIC
    0.5 CuP-UNSALTED BUTTER
    2 LBS-CHICKEN

Cut up chicken in 2 X 2 inch pieces and tenderize with a mallet. Place on skewers and sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Broil for 8 minutes. Turn over and sprinkle other side, then broil for an additional 8 minutes. Take out of oven and set aside.

On medium low heat, melt butter. Add all ingredients except cream. Heat for about 10 minutes on low so spices can reconstitute and then slowly add cream. Add chicken and raise heat to just a boil and then turn down to low and simmer ten minutes more.

It is a little high, tomato sauce would have about 18, and the lemon juice 2 or 3, heavy cream and cilantro has carbs, so it could get up there pretty fast. I think I will try it once I find the Garam Masala.

I wonder if you could make it with a lower-carb alternative to tomato sauce... maybe tomato paste? Also, cilantro is only an enhancer... it's not 100% necessary.

Cilantro is a definate must in this dish. I made it last night and left out the lemon juice and it turned out just fine. The real recipe calls to marinate the chicken in yogurt, lemon juice and spices.....which really raises the carb count. I bought chickem breast tenders, put a little salt and pepper on them and broiled them and they turned out great. Oh yeah.....I also added garlic and I think that made a big difference.

That's for the entire recipe. If you make five servings out of it it's only 7 carbs a serving. I end up making about 7 servings out of this because I eat 5 small meals a day.

Yogurt is not acceptable on Induction.

Besides, Greek yogurt has about the same number of net carbs as heavy cream. Full fat FAGE has 6.5 net carbs per cup, while heavy cream has 6.6.

                  Thank you for the clarification.
I was thinking of the greek yogurt in response to tiz4tggr's mention that traditionally it is marinated in yogurt.
