There is a big battle over Eastern and Western NC over who has the better barbecue sauce. Which is better, the ketchup based, or the vinegar based? Well, this one is vinegar based, and it's pretty darn good. You can use this to baste a pork roast in the oven or chops on the grill, but my favorite use is to pour it over a pork roast or pork strips in the crockpot.
Ingredients:
4 cups apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar twin or splenda
3 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne
1 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
Mix it all up and use it as you like! I bought a huge package of sirloin pork strips and threw them all in the crockpot, then I poured this sauce over the top and cooked everything on low for about 5 hours. It was great!
As for the carb content, to be honest, I'm not really sure. The fact is, you don't actually eat much of the sauce, it's just used for the cooking. The only carb content is the sugar substitute, and there is very little, so I would think that if you counted it as one carb per serving you would be okay. But if you find out differently, please let me know!
