    Homemade Syrup

hey naja, is it possible to make homemade syrup? it's really expensive (like $10!) here.

i've seen recipes were like 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar and some extract. thing is if we use artificial sweetener, then it doesn't thicken. oh. and i can't find like thicknthin here in singapore either.

    thanks! =)

Did you get any info on making your own syrup? Sorbee makes a nice tasting syrup and low in price, but it has a few carbs.

You can get a few packets of Guar Gum on Ebay for a few US dollars. Add a few tsps to the mixture of sweetener, water, and extract and it will thicken immediately.
      The recipe I used:

      1 cup water
      1/2 tbsp extract
1 tbsp liquid splenda, or 24 pkts
      1/2 tsp guar gum

It makes a very nice vanilla syrup (1cup). Be warned though, when you first make it, there will be a very heavy alcohol taste, but after you refrigerate it overnight it's gone and it just tastes nice and sweet.
      Good luck!
