I'm a Catholic and am always searching for more education...what are "High Holy Days"? Honestly...this is curiousity...something to tuck away for future reference. I'd love to hear the recipes as well! Get it going people!

The High Holy Days are Rosh Hashanah, which is the Jewish new year, and Yom Kippur, the day of Atonement, which comes 10 days after.
Rosh Hashanah is a two-day affair which involves going to synagogue and having lavish dinners. We're talking brisket, mashed potatoes, kugel (noodle pudding), apples and honey, honey cake, glazed carrots, gefilte fish, matzo ball soup, challah (braided egg bread)....all the jewish soul food!
Yom Kippur is a day where we fast from the evening until the next evening. THen we have a big "break fast" meal: challah, bagels, gefilte fish, salmon, cream cheese, chopped liver, kugel, etc. etc. (Often a dairy meal)

there is a Jewish diabetic low carb site that Dana Carpender often refers to in her holdthetoast newsletters but I've never found its website. But this is a good one very kosher http://www.jewishdiabetes.org/medissues.html
Thanks for the explanation Finelly...I knew the names of those but never really knew much about them. I could see how it would be hard eating during those Holy Days. Wow. Jewish soul food was a good explanation!
