I am a horrible cook, i always fear that i am going to burn down the house everytime i cook. (im in college so i dont cook much) Can someone give me some ideas or maybe tell me the best way to cook just the meat....yes thats right i dont even know how to cook meat. Thanks so much for the help.

    Re: Stew

Do you have a George Foreman grill? If not, I'd invest in one, and make simple things on it, like chicken breasts, hamburger patties, fish, etc. The instruction booklet even tells you specifically how to use it, grilling times, etc. I bought one for my cousin who is away at college, and she loves it.

      Re: Stew

Even if you can't get the grill, here are a few tips I learned when I was first cooking: Always season the meat before you cook - the best basics are garlic, salt and pepper then stick it on a baking sheet or casserole dish in the oven at 350 degrees and check it every 10-15 mins until the first side is brown - then turn it over and put it back in until the other side is brown. If you have a large roast - it may take a couple of hrs to cook but anything smaller should only take about 1/2 hr. A good rule of thumb: if it starts to make your house smell good - better check it!

        Re: Stew

Stew meat I would assume is chopped up beef? If it is, I'd boil it until tender in water with a couple of boullion cubes or beef broth and a little black pepper. Add veggies of your choice things like a little onion, canned tomatos, green pepper, mushrooms anything from the list that you like. Continue simmering until the veggies are cooked, if you want to thicken the broth a little you can add a little heavy cream and simmer it until it thickens and then Voila! Dinner!

          Re: Stew

Beef, stew meat, cooked, lean and fat eaten 2 c Celery, raw 1 cup, Onions, mature, raw .5 cup Mushrooms, raw 1 cup Squash, summer, yellow, raw 1 cup Tomatoes, from canned, stewed 1 can (chop these up) Soup, beef broth, cubed, dry 2 cubes Garlic, raw 2 cloves

take a few of the fatty meat peices and brown them in the pan with the onion and garlic, both finely minced (tiny). Put all of that, all of the meat, a bay leaf, and the bullion and canned tomatos in a pan with water and boil for a good long time (about an hour) stirring every so often.

Chop the other veggies into bite sized peices. Add them in the last half hour before you want to serve it.

FItday colums are calories/fat/carb/protein so this has 996/57/39/83 for the whole recipe. I have not yet, but wanted to try, adding jicama. I put in lots of crushed red pepper and cayenne for kick, and make some wild/brown rice in a seperate pot to add in for the family for theirs, or alpha noodles when I can find them. The amount of water used depends on how thick you like your stew. For an interesting taste, still ymmy, add a touch of cayenne, and the same amount of cinnamon. It is dark and exotic, and people will try to guess all night what your "secret ingredient" is.

I am a dump and cook person, but this looks about right. Cooking, for me, is allabout trying and tasting and trying again.

              Re: Stew

TabulahRosa... here is one of my fave recipes for stew meat. I didnt read all the way, and thought you were just looking for stew. IT is called stinky beef... and is yummy.

              1 lb beef
              2 cloves garlic
              .5 cup chopped onions
              .5 c chopped green onions
              1 jalapeno pepper chopped
              3 T soy sauce
              1.5 T worcestire sauce
              splash vinegar

put .25 c olive oil in the pan and get it warmed up
add in the meat and cook until just brown
add in the veggies and fry up with the meat
              add in the sauces

for less heat, dont put the jalapeno seeds in
              for more, use the seeds
I, of course, add in lots of crushed red pepper and cayenne to the meat while it is cooking.

              This is yummy. Total recipe is 1412 calories, 110 g fat, 23 g carbs, 82 g protein.

And of course, you can always just put your meat on skewers with cubed induction friendly veggies and broil them.

                        Womanpraised,

This looks good to me and seems induction safe. However, how many servings does this make so I can tell how many carbs to count for each person?

Well if the whole recipe is

                          Total recipe is 1412 calories, 110 g fat, 23 g carbs, 82 g protein.
So it would depend on how much you eat! If you get 4 servings out the whole thing, just divide the total carbs by 4 so 23 divided by 4 would be 5.75 carbs per serving. If you sit and eat the whole thing by yourself than 1 serving would be 23 carbs.

Ahem... is this where I admit that with this recipe, I could eat the whole thing?

It is just me and the kids, and it is really spicy for them, so usually, I would divide it into thirds and keep them all for me! This is one of my favorite feeling sorry for myself, gonna do something special just for me things.
