  • Basic Quiche Ingredients??? Need Help...

I'm wanting to try to make these quiche things that everyone is always talking about and see how they come out. I know that I can basically add whatever to it. But what are they basic ingredients just for the quiche without all the extras???

    Thanks!

    Here's what I do...

Preheat oven to 350. Grease a pie plate. Put your "whatever" ingredients in the pie plate. Beat together 5 eggs. Add any spices or seasonings that you desire. Pour beaten eggs over your "whatever" in the pie plate. Bake for 30 minutes or until browned and a knife in the center comes out clean.

Just to add to what Soft wrote. Quiche is simply a savory egg custard pie. So the basic ingredients to quiche are eggs, liquid, cheese, and add-ins like cooked meat, veggies, herb, spices, etc.

The liquid can be cream or a combo of cream and water. How much liquid should you add, no more than 1/2 cup per whole egg, imo.

Since quiches are crustless on low carb diets, what I do is put a layer of grated parmesan cheese on the bottom of the pan. On top of the parmesan cheese, I put the add-ins (cooked meat, veggies, more cheese), then I pour the egg custard mixture on top being careful not to disturb the parmesan cheese layer. As it bakes, that parmesan cheese will solidify and become sort of like a crust---not a crusty crust, but it will firm up enough so that the quiche will come out of the pan a bit easier.

I am a real finicky cook. I take how many ever eggs I have left in the carton, beat them with a splash, exactly mind you, not a dollop or a spill, or - heaven forbid - a dash, of cream, dump in whatever else sounds yummy to me (tomatoes, feta and olives are my current thing), and pour it into a greased pan. If I need to, I will pour it into a greased pan, and greased cupcake tin. I bake it at 350ish until it looks firm and a poke reveals that the center is cooked.

I think the beauty of cooking is that it is intensly personal, and no one can say, OH! Thats wrong! Because, it may be wrong for them, but if you like it, then it is perfect for you! And it is different every time, like a surprise!

Give it a go, see what you like, and have fun!

Also look in DANDR2002, there's a recipe section in the back of the book. I think there is a crustless quiche recipe included....

                Hi Krystle,

I took the crustless quiche recipe at end of DANDR as Megs said, and Pau's idea of using muffin trays, and made my own version of mini crustless quiche muffins - they taste fantastic and you can have them for brekkie, as a snack, on the go or even as a meal.

I did a variation of the recipe and put diced bacon, shredded mozarella, spinach, onion, capsicum (pepper), cream, garlic aioli, cream cheese and eggs, poured them into muffin trays and ended up with something quite yummy! You can put just about any ingredient you like in them!

Mine came up to about 2g carbs each, approx 147 cals, 61%fats/8%carbs/31%protein.

Re: Basic Quiche Ingredients??? Need Help...

This afternoon I made a fresh tomato and basil quiche using this recipe:

                    http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/toma...il_quiche.html

I found some tomato & basil feta at the store, so I used it instead of the mozzarella. OMG!!! I had a foodgasm. It was sooooo good!!!
