It is a brand name for Licorice ! I would say you take a bout a billion pounds of sugar put in some red food dye, mix in a bit of flavoring and bingo you got it !! I don't think its induction friendly mind you :joy

Some things boggle my mind.... I have absolutely no idea where to even begin on creating something that artificial and sugar-drenched in an Atkins friendly way.

I'd assume that if you were dead-set on it you would need to work with sugar-alcohols to get the desired texture/consistency, or perhaps gelatins and xantham-gum/guar-gum.... But wow, those are so processed and chemical-rich it isn't even funny.

Try adding anise to other desserts if you miss the licorice flavor.

i tried this last night, but it was JUST jello?!??!
Do they mean 3 BOXES of sf jello or one? I used one box (=4 servings) and 4 ppacks gelatin. I just want some gummi candy or something!

I would purchase star anise in an Oriental market and simmer a package down slowly in just enough water to cover it, until I had a nice strong anise flavored liquid. Sweeten this with Splenda or stevia to taste. Then I would dissolve a metric buttload of plain unflavored gelatin in that liquid and let it set. Cut up this thick gelatin into strips when it is set.

They do make a commercia sugar free gummy candy, and it tastes pretty much like the regular stuff, but it will keep you on the porcelain throne if you eat too many of them as they are made with sugar alcohols.

Do you want gummy bears/worms or do you want licorice?

To me they are completely different animals.

I have a good recipe for gummy worms utilizing plastic straws but licorice is a little more complicated.

Lc licorice can be done with wheat protein (either gluten or WPI). Are you familiar with seitan? A good recipe for seitan combined with sweetener and flavoring will yield licorice.

I did just get some WPI recently. If I have a second I'll take a shot at developing a recipe.

That recipe has WAY too much water!

                  I found this on google
                  GUMMY BEARS

                  Recipe By : Unknown

1 package sugar free Jello, any flavor
6 packages gelatin powder, unsweetened, unflavored
                  1/2 cup cold water

In a small saucepan, mix flavored and unflavored gelatin. Stir it up. Pour
cold water in, stir with spatula until you have a gloppy-chunky blob, not
unlike play-doh. Turn heat on medium, melt blob. Stir obsessively until
melted. Pour into miniature bear molds. Stick in freezer for 10 minutes
to cool. If you don't have Miniature bear molds, do this: take the rack
out of your toaster oven and put it on the counter. Drape a big sheet of
aluminum foil over it. Cram the aluminum foil down into the gaps, leaving
                  striplike molds. Presto! Gummy worms.

Since you gave me the idea I just made this :icondance

We only had 4 pks of gelatin so I used that with 1/3 cup of water and a sugar free cherry jello. Didn't happen to have gummy bear molds. Or a toaster oven either . . . But it works really good to use aluminum foil and make it like a fruit wrap. I sprayed cooking spray on the foil to be sure it din't stick and poured the whole glob on and stuck it in the freezer for about 3 minutes. Tastes JUST LIKE TWIZZLERS!! We ate half of it already, it was soooo good. I sliced the rest of it and I'm gonna leave it sit out for a couple of days to dry out and see if gets a bit harder like licorice.

                    GREAT IDEA!!

Spunkin, I would definitely refrigerate your gummy worms. Without preservatives and the preserving effects of sugar, these will have a tendency to spoil.
