  • What do you put in your salad?

    Hello....

Just got a bag of pre-washed spinach for my salads. I also bought a cucumber *never tried cucumber or the spinach, thought I'd give it a shot* and a tomato. I'd like your ideas for salads and what you put in yours. I also bought some Carb Options Ranch and Blue Cheese *Never have tried the BC but I'm trying to expand my eating choices and be different*. Interested in hearing what you all put in your salads!

I mix spinach and any kind of lettuce, I like cucumbers, raw brocolli, raw cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, radishes, green peppers (or red or yellow), any leftover meats cut up into 1" pieces, sometimes I'll put in some grated cheese. Oh, I love spinach salad with black olives and feta cheese. I like a BLT salad -- lettuce, bacon, tomato with mayo for dressing. I like a Taco salad -- hamburger cooked in cumin and chili powder, salad greens, tomatoes, chopped avacado, black olives or chopped sweet green peppers. I'll put just about any fresh veggie I have in the fridge that needs to be used up -- fresh green beans add a real nice crunch. DH likes chopped hard boiled eggs in his. We both use a variety of dressings, depending on what meal we're having or what's in the salad or what mood we're in! LOL

Really -- salad is "anything goes" around here!

As far as veggies go, I like cucumber, green onions, some radish slices and alfalfa sprouts. But I also like to add some sort of meat to make a more filling lunch, usually grilled chicken, deli turkey, pepperoni or steak. I also go for the regular ranch and Blue cheese dressings; you can usually find one brand that has just 1g carb per serving. I've tried the carb option ranch, and it wasn't bad, but I like the regular better. Oh yeah, and I usually put an oz of some sort of shredded cheese and possibly a hard boiled egg.

I love all of the above toppings on my salads. One thing I've recently started using are hot/spicy pepper rings. They're found next to the pickles. They do have ones labeled with 0 carbs but my favorite one is Vlasic - which states 1 carb. These are really killer on your taco salads.

A salad doesn't even have to contain lettuce or leafy greens. You can have a salad of cubed cucumbers, celery, and tomatoes. Or a salad of tomatoes, basil and mozzarella. Tomatoes, bell pepper and sweet onion is nice too. Technically, coleslaw is a salad. You get the picture.

Personally, I like my spinach cooked or if it is in a salad, then I like to have it in a wilted salad.
