  • Relish?

Hey guys, I have decided to take the plunge and make myself a nice batch of relish... what can I say? I love the stuff! I figure I can put it on burgers or even mix it with a little mayo when I make my crab cakes or tuna cakes to make tartar sauce.

Anyone here made homemade relish? I understand that I either would have to dice it in ridiculously tiny pieces with a knife or use a food processor to get the tiny pieces of pickles... I prefer dill relish, so would I have to add Splenda? Anything else I should keep in mind about making relish?

Tomorrow's grocery day so I'm buying some pickles then, but any input would be appreciated.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

    Re: Relish?

I just buy a bottle of Heinz dill relish from the store. If I want it sweeter for some recipes, I add a little splenda. It works for me. You can also buy relish sweetened with splenda (Mount Olive brand). It's good.

As for making my own, I've made relish before. If it's dill, you don't have to use sugar/sweetener. Just find a recipe for dill relish and follow it. You can add some splenda later if you would like.

The problem with using store-bought cucumbers is that many of them have a wax coating on them. I don't think it would be very good in relish.

Here's a recipe I found by googling for dill relish without sugar:

    June Goals
    1. Continue with water
    2. Use bike more (3x per week would be nice).
    3. Continue with videos.
    4. Go to the YMCA for water classes.
    5. Build stamina for more walking.

    Goals for May:
    1. Water every day - at least 100 oz.
    2. Walk through Wal Mart instead of ride.
    3. Post every day.
    4. Get the exercise bike out of basement and use it!
    5. Re-read DANDR! It's been too long.
