  • ambrosia?

There was something I ate like 5 years ago at my baby shower and Im trying to remember what was in it... of course it was full carb and all that, im thinking it was an ambrosia. I'm thinking it had like whipped cream or cream cheese with lime jello, and I think pineapple? I dont think it had marshmellows or anything like that. Anyone have anything simular? Low carbing it would be pretty easy.. I've seen some SF crushed canned pineapple in the stores (sliced peaches too woot). Thanks in advance!

How do they suck the sugar out of fruit?

They don't. The reduced sugar/low carb canned fruit cheats by sweetening the canning liquid with Splenda. It's been awhile since I've read a can but the carb count is still pretty high for the recommended serving size.

Anyhow, there are a few recipes for ambrosia. They all have canned mandarin oranges and marachino cherries. Other fruit is sometimes added. The sauce is either whipped cream or sour cream. Minimarshmallows are also sometimes added. And there's usually a sprinkling of coconut flakes.

Not2late is right, they sweeten with splenda. The carb count is pretty high, but not nearly as close as the sugar sweetened bad ones for you. I admit I do prefer natural/fresh over anything canned or presweetened. Del Monte makes the canned peaches I have @ 6g carbs per 1/2 cup, unsure about the pineapple. Our local base doesn't have a wide variety of fruit, so when I saw these I thought not bad for a small serving in a pinch.. then again I have reached my goal and not on the lower rungs of this Woe.
