  • Jicima recipes for guys???

Ok, no intention to offend anyone here but I am wondering if there are any recipes for Jicima that "guys" would like. I have seen a few but they usually involve poached Salmon or something with a "twist" of this or that. I don't mind cooking or making up recipes, I just don't want to eat any "foo foo" meals. It just doesn't fit me, I am an old school meat and potatos guy who is currently just a meat guy.

    Ideas?

I slice it and eat it raw. You can use an extra big knife if you want to make preparation more "manly".

oh jicama is a very manly vegetable ..trust me ..it almost looks like a small football!

there is no Foo Foo in this recipe .. it is very Butch...

carve one fresh jicama into the shape of dice (real men do not "dice")
crush with those giant forearms the juice out of two fresh limes (those would be the green things they slice and put in a Corona)
take and chop to hamburger one habanero pepper ...oh yeah this will prove your culinary manliness trust me....

toss all these things into a bowl along with olive oil ..one with the EXTRA VIRGIN IN IT....leave in the fridg for at least an hour before eating...
and if you are ready to get in touch with your girlie side add a big man sized handful of chopped cilantro...

this make me swoon thinking about it

ever humble woman at your service ...

another way to make jicama is to dice it up along with one onion toss it in a pan with some oil ...and cook this over med high until golden brown ..season with salt and pepper ...

          better than potato I think

Peel it, slice it and use it as a snack chip.

BTW, poached salmon isn't "foo-foo" food. It's a very healthy and flavorful way of preparing fish and other meats. You might want to expand your culinary experience by dropping your food prejudice.

I'm only saying that because I've read plenty of threads claiming that "Atkins is so boring" or "there's not enough variety with Atkins" blah blah blah blah blah. There's more than one way to cook a chicken. The more ways we learn the less likely we'll moan "there's not enough variety" or "I'm so sick of the Atkins food" or whatever sorry excuse is given.

eh... well, I'm not a guy who cares too much about variety, I could eat the same 4 or 5 things forever, and it is a little foo foo for a guy like me who thinks fancy is a Hamberger you don't eat in the car.

I guess I was looking for a "side dish kind of thing"

I am expanding a little though, planning on quische tonight...

I'm not a fan of boiled meat--like New England boiled dinners. But I don't call it "foo foo" or some other derogatory/effeminate term because it's not to my liking.

Wow, did I hit a nerve? When I say foo foo, I mean fancy. I never meant to offend poached salmon.

Considering more than 50% of the members here on ADBB are women and considering that more than 50% of the members who actively participate on the Food forums are women, yes, your condescending attitude did hit a nerve, of which I find nothing "cute" or "entertaining".

As far as I'm concerned this matter is closed.

                          Have a nice day.

ANYWAY... that's the point, I am in the minority and I am looking for people who are willing to help, if you'd rather man hate than that's fine, but I'd still like a recipes that are more towards my taste considering this is the Recipe Request forum, so relax...
