  • Canned Spinach

ugh, I hate spinach except when it's raw. BUT, I have a few cans from when the dh did the shopping. It's just slimey and tastes like dirt to me.
Ok, My question is, how can I prepare this stuff to where I can eat it with him? Are there any recipes that could mask the taste? And even better the texture

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Canned Spinach

I think you could add it to things, rather than eating it as a side dish. Add it to scrambled eggs and you've got eggs florentine, add it to alfredo sauce, along with chicken (and eat over spaghetti squash) and it would be delicious!

I'm with ya on not liking leaves cooked. But spinach is something I LOVE added to sauces...add it to tomato sauce, maybe you could throw it in a crock pot with chicken breasts?

HAH! Great Idea! So for recipes that call for frozen spinach? can I use the canned. I just can't find any recipes using canned. I'm gonna try lindas creamy spinach even though it calls for frozen, I need to use one as a side tonight....we'll see how it goes.
      Thanks for the ideas!

        Re: Canned Spinach

I see no problems using canned spinach instead of frozen. They're both cooked. You might get away with cooking the canned stuff for a shorter amount of time.

thats funny because I don't like the taste of frozen but I love the taste of fresh or CANNED! It's what I was raised on. No one else in my house will go near it.

I'm going to put some cream cheese in mine.

I love the creaminess with the spinach.

My dad loved canned spinach. He would soak it in V & olive oil, and eat large bowlfuls of it. He's Italian, and I swear they cook a lot of spinach and olive oil in everything. We kids used to gag looking at it! I love it fresh in salad only. You might try it with v & oil, maybe you'll like it that way.
