so i bought some of the kc masterpiece low calorie bbq sauce, it has good flavor, but it is very easy to go overboard with it. i was wondering if any one had any ideas to thin out the sauce? i think i could do really well using it as a baste or marinade, i just wasn't sure where to start. should i thin it out with oil, water, or what? any suggestions will be appriciated.thanks

Re: bbq sauce....baste?
BBQ sauce is one of those things that is really hard to duplicate... but here goes.. Mind you this is off the top of my head
Tomato paste. (organic, unsweetened)
white vinegar and splenda.. Mix together to make the "Ketchup" base
Garlic, onion, finely chopped, sautéed and added to the base
next some liquid smoke..
The only thing that there is no substitute for is the molasses... but if you like maple you could try sugar free maple syrup..
some mustard and horseradish to give it a burn.
I think this would take lots of work and experimentation... and it's never really going to be great.

Re: bbq sauce....baste?
I'd try thinning it out with a little of both oil & water. I used both with a dry rub I made for some chicken legs and it turned out juicy and plump and tastie!!
I've been using oil & water while sauting veggies too. You get a steamed/crispy texture.Start date: 05/24/04 Restart date: 03/05/07
