  • Birthday Cake!

Oh why oh why did my birthday have to be in January?? Exactly two weeks after starting induction, no less??

My birthday is the 14th and I'm having a party. I'd like to make a cake, or a cheesecake, ANYTHING that I can eat and share with my friends, but I don't want to break my diet. Can anyone reccomend anything?

    Try Linda's website: http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/dessert_recipes.html

The induction friendly recipes have an (*) next to them. She has several cheesecake recipes.

Good luck and Happy Birthday! My birthday is in January too but I'll probably just go to a nice steak house with friends and skip dessert. Have Fun!

      Re: Birthday Cake!

My birthday is Sunday. It won't bother me not to have cake. It will bother me to gain weight (if I eat the cake). If you're going out, try to eat something small before going so you won't be tempted to eat anything non-legal. Like Liz stated, Linda's site has a lot of yummy low carb, induction-friendly desserts. Stay strong and happy birthday!

My favorite site is this one for low carb desserts. I have done the cheescake & the crustless pumpkin, which is to die for! I love it. (happy dance)

          Re: Birthday Cake!

If you haven't tested yourself on atkins friendly sweets just beware that even though a sweet might be legal it can trigger you to crave more sweets and can be a stumbling block for you. Alot of people eat them with out issue but some like me have to avoid even legal ones because it's all downhill from there .........

Happy Birthday to you and Congrats on making it through induction and making this change in your life

Thank you everyone! I'll be making dinner at my place for all my stupid friends so they can all shove it because it will all be low carb! Veggie/meat/cheese platters and no chips or pretzels!

              Re: Birthday Cake!

I made a taco dip layering creamcheese, salsa, cheese, black olives, and tomatoes for new years eve and loved eating it with a spoon rather than chips. I think if you made this though you should include some sort of tortilla chips for company to dip in. I know you were asking about cakes but thought I'd share this.

                Re: Birthday Cake!

What phase of Atkins will you be on then? I know there are induction-legal cheesecake recipes, or crustless pumpkin pie recipes. If you are on a higher rung of OWL your options increase.

Heidi brought up a good point--a sweet dessert could trigger cravings. Make sure that you are strong enough to resist them or make sure that you don't have cravings at all! Ask yourself if it's worth risking solid ground for a birthday treat. Whatever you decide, I hope you have some great LC foods and a great birthday!
