  • Mayonnaise Dips--any good "recipes"?

Since my favorite dill dip and most ranch dressing (that I've found) contains HFCS or other junk, I was wondering if you had any creative and tasty "recipes" for mayonnaise--meaning, what do you add to plain old mayo to make it a great dip or sauce?

How about some sour cream with fresh or dried dill or other spices?

Well, I'm hoping to avoid sour cream because it's fresh dairy. I'm looking for an everyday kind of thing, and I don't want to be eating fresh dairy every day! That's why mayo is such a good option, it's pure fat!

        Hi,

Its not a cold dip but artichoke dip is pretty peachy if you don't mind the cheese carbs.

Thanks! The lemon-mayo and sundried tomato dips sound good. I'll be steering clear of the others because they contain Worcestireshire, which has HFCS.

            Mayo plus
            1. a chopped chipotle pepper and some lime juice
            2. lemon juice (really simple, but the lemon juice gives it enough zing to compliment chicken, pork chops, fish, etc.)
            3. a bit of ketchup---tastes sorta like Russian dressing.
            4. a bit of ketchup, grated onion, and chopped dill pickle---tastes sorta like thousand island dressing
            5. Dijon mustard and a little sweetener---tastes like a "honey mustard" thing.
            6. toasted sesame oil, grated gingerroot and a bit of rice vinegar
            7. sriracha sauce (that's a type of Thai red hot pepper sauce)
            8. horseradish

The mayo-chipotle pepper is my fav---I like spicy food!

Julie, if you can get your hands on fresh cilantro, that's awesome! Or, if you can't find that, look for the spanish cooking base. I love this mixed with mayo. Any fresh herbs would work too. Fresh dill, fresh basil.

Megs already talked about the chipotle pepper in adobo sauce. It's nice and spicy.

                        I looove mayo.

I have become addicted to italian dressing which is higher carb than ranch or anything *bleh* I've tried the SF italian and I found it disgusting. lol I've been adding mayo to a little italian to stretch it but still have the italian kick. So its creamy italian.

Also when I do fried mushrooms I make a creamy garlic dressing because thats what the place we ordered them from serves. I "believe" I just used mayo, lil vinegar, garlic powder. It tasted pretty good.

Also the old standby of mayo, a little mustard & splenda or sweetener of choice for a mock honey mustard. I dip rolled up ham & cream cheese in it. YUM!

                          SMOKED GOUDA VEGGIE DIP

Combine your ingrediants with a mixer, not a food processor, so you have actual little bits of Gouda in the dip.

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese
                          2/3 cup mayo
                          1 cup shredded smoked Gouda
6 scallions, including the crisp part of the green shoot, sliced
                          2 tbls. grated parmesian cheese
                          1/2 tsp pepper

                          1. Beat the cream cheese and mayo together until creamy, scraping the sides of the bowl often.
                          2. Add the Gouda, scallions, Parmesian, and pepper, and beat untill blended.
                          3. Chill, and serve with raw vegetables

Yield: At least 8 servings, each with 2 grams of carbohydrates, a trace of fiber, and 7 grams of protein.

1 clove garlic. crushed, or 1 tsp of jarred, chopped garlic
                          paprika

                          1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

                            d'oh!!!!

I forgot another Mayo plus recipe.....and it's a classic too!!!!!

Mayo plus garlic. Use finely minced raw garlic or mashed roasted garlic or minced garlic that's sauteed (add the oil that you sauteed it in too!). OR a combination of raw, roasted, minced to give you the full garlic flavor spectrum.

A more involved mayo plus recipe is similar to what Hopeful wrote. Use mayo to make viniagrettes into creamy dressings. Or use a flavored oil plus mayo plus an acid like vinegar or citrus juice.

                              I have two.

One is my poppy seed dressing

I dont have an exact recipe I have been making it for so long. Its mayo, poppy seeds (just a little), splenda to taste (just slightly sweet not a lot) and olive oil to make it thinner so it can be used as dressing as well.

My next is just my version of spicy mayo.

Mayo, garlic (powder or minced) kosher salt( just a dash) fresh ground black pepper, olive oil ( I sneek those nice omega 3's in whenever I can) chili powder, paprika, and a little splash of vinegar. I have forgone the vinegar a lot of times too.
