REQ: Simple Protein Shake for Meal replacement.

Ideally something I can make in a larger batch and keep in fridge for when I'm "on the go"......I'm figuring we have to be able to make it cheaper then the $2.89 each that the canned shakes cost.

I'm intrigued by this request. I'm in France and I find it easy to find low carb, low fat, low calorie diet shake/pudding powders on the shelf in the supermarket. It's right next to the Slim Fast which isn't low carb by the way. I just had to read each and every lable but the products are there. Just mix with water. The Slim Fast is very expensive but the european brands are reasonable. And, of course, the prepared stuff in cans of individual servings is more expensive.

I sometimes add it to whipped cream to make a dessert type dish.

Ideally you want your shake to match the cals and ratios of the Atkins plan not the slimfast plan.

You can use fat, a protein and a carb with some fiber so you don't get clogged up!

Pick a flavor of protein powder you like that is low carb. Then figure out using your fitday account advanced a day how much of your powder with a fat cream or olive oil and/or canola work best. You can add some psyllium husks or some flaxseed meal for the fiber and carbs. I know my protein whey powder 1 serving will work with 1/4 cup olive oil, and 1/4 cup of flax to give perfect Atkins ratios but it is over 700 cals so I wouldn't drink it all in one seving as my BMR is only 1561 and my AMR has dropped quite a bit right now. When I can get back to the gym and my AMR is over 4000 then I would have that many cals for a meal.

If you can get pasturized eggs you can use raw eggs instead of the protein powder and you'd need less added fat. The psyllium with continue to gel the longer it sits so you might want to wait till you are ready to drink it to thicken it with that. The flax will get slimey the longer it sits but it will get less gritty if you let it sit a while.
