    Let's talk gravy

With Thanksgiving coming...what are some options for thickening gravy??? I traditionally use flour or rice flour in the past (my MIL has celiac's)

    I need some new options

    Any thoughts

I have used flaxseed meal to thicken sauces before. I don't remember how much I used for it, but it worked.

I've heard of using heavy cream.

I've used thickenthin, and it worked quite well!

          Re: Let's talk gravy

Thickenthin will thicken it but (in my opnion) it just has the worst texture. Yuck!
I also use less liquid in things to start with and add cream or cheese to thicken (obv cheese wouldn't be too good in gravy though!). x Sorry I can't help. I have never attempted gravy on this way of eating as didn't think you'd be able to make a legal version so will watch this thread carefully! xx

i want to stay away from creams and make it a traditional. I was thinking xanthan gum or thickthin...or some other product I had not yet heard of.

                Re: Let's talk gravy

Does the thickener need to be gluten-free?

                What rung are you on?

These are just some ideas (all are gluten-free), not sure what all of them would taste like!

Induction/Rung 1--cook veggies like celery and puree to thicken the drippings to make gravy.
                Rung 2--sour cream
                Rung 3--almond flour, flax meal
Rung 6--soy flour, garbanzo bean flour
                Rung 8--tapioca starch, potato starch
                Rung 9--corn starch, rice flour
