  • what to do with an alvacado

did I even spell that right?

So I bought an Alvacado yesterday and I have no idea what to do with it. I know how to cut it and get the pit out(seen that on t.v.) but I don't know if I like them or not.

What do you think I should do with it not knowing wether or not I like it?

You can make guacamole with it and eat it with celary. What you do is mash it with a fork, add a little lemon juice, salt pepper, corriander. Yumm

I like to add a little sour cream to my guac to make it more of a dip.

      Avocado- mashed
a little sour cream to smooth it out.
      add a little chopped onion
a little salsa or diced tomato
      a little cilantro
a bit of lemon juice (acid keeps that avocado from turning brown)
and a bit of salt and pepper.

Scoop with pork rinds, top eggs with it, use celery, top carnitas with it, etc.

      I love it!
"I'm big boned" ...Um, nobody has bones that big....

Buffalo wings, not just for breakfast anymore.

I like avocadoes in guacamole, but I also like it cut into slices or cubes and mixed with equally chunky cut tomatoes. For a sweeter preparation: sprinkle some sweetener on avocado slices and eat like a dessert or smoothie---toss the avocado in a blender, add sweetner to taste, add water and a couple tablespoons of heavy cream, add ice cubes and puree.

I might have to try the Smoothie.

I do not eat tomatoes. So that is out..

Off topic but I did make my husband same cucumbers and tomatoes yesterday, diced them the same size, added mayo, oregano, vinegar, salt and pepper. He likes it.
I guess if you like tomatoes you could do alvacados that way also.

I like to mash it up with lemon juice, garlic, onion and sour cream and then I spread it on top of hamburger patties. It is a nice change especially since I can't have ketchup.

                    I love baked avocado!

Take the stone out. Heat gently in oven (150/300) for about 15 mins. Top with olive oil or cheese or fry up some bacon and mushrooms and mix in some garlic cheese such as boursin and put that on top of the avocado - DE LI CIOUS!

Or slice it and broil it and sprinkle with lemon juice - also delicious.

Also nice cold stuffed with shrimp and drizzled with olive oil and a dash of cider vinegar and lots of black pepper.

                    Or, guacamole.

I LOVE AVOCADO! Can you tell?!! LOL!

Re: what to do with an alvacado

The salad you made for your husband would do well with avocadoes in place of the tomatoes.

And if you don't have cilantro or coriander, you don't have to reject the entire recipe. you can still make it, just don't add it in.

Thanks Megs- I wasn't sure how important those ingredients were to the recipe.

Like not adding baking powder or Baking soda to a recipe. RUINs the whole thing!!

This is what I did. Thanks Megs..
smoothie---toss the avocado in a blender, add sweetner to taste, add water and a couple tablespoons of heavy cream, add ice cubes and puree.

I added more ice then I should, It made it like a ice-milk avocado ice cream. I added coconut extraxt to it. Weird I know.

Avocado's are suppost to be good for you, right. I am pretty sure I read somewhere on here where they have somehting in them that are good for you?????, that is why I bought it.

                              no cilantro/corriander (same thing)
you can also use parsley, it's just not as strong. It gives a nice fresh flavor to anything you make.
