I also need a recipe for stuffed peppers. I got the whole hamburger thing. I just need to know what other stuff to add to it and how long and what temp to cook it.
I use a combo of ground meat and loose sausage meat (like the Jimmy Dean sausage roll). You can add chopped onions, garlic and whatever herbs and spices you want to it too. I also add an egg.
You can cook the stuffed peppers one of two ways.
1. Saute the stuffing mixture, cool, add cheese instead of egg. Stuff into the peppers. You can make this the night before, cover it and put it in the frig until you are ready to cook it. You can either bake it uncovered at 350 degrees or toss it into the microwave and cook it on high for about 5-10 minutes depending on your microwave to heat the peppers through.
2. Mix the stuffing mixture, stuff it into the peppers. Either put the peppers in a shallow baking dish with either tomato sauce or water. Cover and bake. OR put the peppers in a large pot, add the tomato sauce and simmer on the stove top until the stuffing is cooked.
If you bake, cover them and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 to 35 minutes or until the stuffing is completely cooked.

What do you mean put in a shallow baking dish with either tom. sauce or water? Like put it on top or around the pepper? I just want to make sure that I do it right. I also wondering if I could wrap the pepper in alum. foil to help cook it and save on mess. Thanks for the recipe though. It sounds yummy. Also, if I use cheese I shouldn't use an egg?
A shallow baking dish is one that doesn't have really high sides. You can put aluminum foil in the bottom of the pan to help clean up.
The water should go on the bottom of the pan. That is the pepper should sit in about 1/2 inch of water. This will help prevent the bottoms from burning while they cook. It will also produce steam that will help cook the peppers too. If you use tomato sauce, use a 50-50 mix of tomato sauce and water. You can pour some of the tomato sauce on top of the peppers if you like.
If you pre-cook the filling before you stuff the peppers, it's better to use cheese than an egg, because the dish becomes more of a heat and eat type thing. If you use an egg, you'll have to cook the peppers long enough to thoroughly cook the egg you've added and that might overcook the filling which is already cooked.
If you use raw stuffing, you can certainly add cheese and an egg to the mixture. you can even put a bit of cheese on top of the peppers during the last 15 minutes of cooking, so the cheese won't burn.
You are so kind to answer all my questions. I got it now. Thanks so much. I'm going to make these tonight or tomorrow. I'll let you know. I'm also going to try bikergoddess pizza.
I forgot to tell you. Instead of cutting the top off the pepper, so the pepper stands up in the pan (and can topple over). Cut the pepper in half lengthwise, this will reduce the toppling effect and can decrease cooking time also.
