  • Warmer weather means snow cones

I bought and electric shaved ice machine and would love to find out what would be best with it. Someone had mentioned davinci but it took so much of the bottle. Any other ideas? thanks

When you buy the honey flavoring, get some other flavorings as well. Then you can make a faux davinci syrup from polyd that's actually quite a bit better than Davinci due to it's sugary consistency/improved quality of sweetness. And cheaper too.

You will need multiple sweeteners, though, to make it cost effective. Liquid splenda, erythritol and sweet one brand ace k is what I'd recommend.

Some of the flavorings can be hit or miss. If you check around you should be able to find people who've used them and can recommend good ones.

Besides going the extract route, you can flavor your syrup with real ingredients such as:

    Coffee
Citrus zest (lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange)
    Vanilla beans
    Pureed/strained strawberries/raspberries/cranberries
    O carb alcohol (for adults)
    Mint leaves
Blackstrap molasses (for brown sugar flavoring)
    Caramelized polyd (for caramel flavoring)

I'd make a polyd unflavored syrup base and then keep that in the fridge. When you want to make snow cones, just take the syrup and add your flavoring of choice. If you make a relatively thick polyd syrup, it lasts for months in the fridge.

Try mixing the Davinci syrup with water. Then freeze it in ice cube trays. You can then shave the flavored ice cubes. You can also drinks like Fruit2O if you don't want to spend alot of money on the Davinci syrup/.
